About The Position

Join our mission-driven team at Voluntary Action Center as a Vehicle Operator and be a part of delivering critical transportation services to those who need it most. Voluntary Action Center of Northern Illinois is seeking a dependable and compassionate part-time Vehicle Operator to join our team in Sycamore, IL. This position is ideal for individuals looking to work 20–29 hours per week and who have the flexibility to work part-time shifts scheduled within our operating hours of Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. As a Vehicle Operator, you’ll provide safe, reliable, and compassionate transportation to our clients through a variety of services including paratransit, flex-route, and park & ride routes. Your role helps individuals access daily essentials like medical appointments, grocery stores, and community resources while promoting dignity and independence.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Illinois driver’s license and a clean driving record.
• Ability to pass a DOT physical, background check, and drug screening.
• Experience in transportation, public service, or similar field.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Patience, reliability, and professionalism.
• Ability to multitask and stay detail oriented.
• Physical ability to assist passengers and mobility devices safely.
• Team player who works well under pressure and with diverse populations.
• Commitment to safety and teamwork.

Nice To Haves

• Public or community transportation experience and experience working with seniors or individuals with disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate agency vehicles under various road and weather conditions.
• Assist passengers boarding, riding, and exiting vehicles.
• Secure mobility devices and provide passenger assistance as needed.
• Communicate with dispatch regarding routes and passenger movement.
• Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Maintain accurate logs (trips, mileage, fuel, fares, and hours).
• Deliver excellent customer service while representing VAC’s mission and values.
