About The Position

The Vehicle Mechanic Supervisor oversees all aspects of shop operations, ensuring timely and budget-compliant project completion. This role involves enforcing safety protocols, conducting quality control inspections, and acting as a liaison between the shop and upper management. The supervisor collaborates on project plans and budgets, manages inventory, and leads a team of technicians. Responsibilities also include coordinating repair schedules, identifying process improvements, staying updated on industry trends, and participating in personnel decisions. The position requires strong knowledge of diesel technology, mechanical analysis software, and DOT regulations.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Shop Supervisor or similar role in the diesel mechanic field.
  • Five to seven years of experience or more preferred with a minimum of 4 years management experience.
  • Experience in TMT, PeopleNet and LYTX preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel technology.
  • Proficient in mechanical analysis/software.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and cost control principles.
  • Familiarity with quality control standards and procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of DOT laws/regulations.
  • Class A License preferred.
  • Knowledge of 406 fuel tankers preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the shop operations.
  • Plan, organize, and prioritize daily tasks to ensure the timely completion of projects and orders.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Uphold and enforce safety protocols and regulations within the workshop.
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure quality control standards are met.
  • Act as a liaison between the shop and upper management, relaying information about production status, challenges, and resource needs.
  • Collaborate with operations management to develop project plans and budgets.
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels to ensure that necessary materials and supplies are readily available.
  • Lead and supervise a team of technicians and workers, providing guidance, support, and direction.
  • Work on equipment when available or necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of work orders, materials used, and project progress.
  • Coordinate with other departments to align PM/repair schedules with overall business objectives for both tractors and trailers.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement measures to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices.
  • Provide input in hiring, firing, and performance appraisals of personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned.
