About The Position

The Boeing Company's Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Flight Systems Engineering Capability is seeking a Senior Vehicle Management Systems (VMS) Hardware Engineer for the Phantom Works Vehicle Management System, VMS, Hardware team in Berkeley, MO. This role involves working across engineering disciplines to design elements of VMS hardware, collaborating with requirements, software, and labs teams for implementation and testing. The position is ideal for Mechanical, Electrical, Aerodynamics, and other engineers who can leverage their expertise and learn new areas to develop capabilities for the Vehicle Management System Computer. Successful candidates will contribute to exciting aircraft development programs and see tangible results of their work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus in Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry
  • Level 4 (Senior): 9+ years of work-related experience with a bachelor’s or 7+ years of work-related experience with Masters or 4+ years with a PhD
  • Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.
  • An interim Secret Clearance Pre-Start and Final Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
  • Must satisfy Company’s Conflict of Interest (COI) assessment process.
  • Must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements. To meet U.S. export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Responsibilities

  • Lead requirements decomposition and traceability from customer need to testable design
  • Develop, document, and maintain electronic and electrical system requirements according to contract requirements and customer feedback
  • Design hardware, software, and interface specifications
  • Understand and apply job practices, techniques, standards, principles, theories, and concepts
  • Develop statement-of-work and technical performance specifications
  • Analyze, translate, and implement customer requirements into system architecture, hardware design and interface specifications, showing traceability throughout the product lifecycle
  • Defines test and validation approach to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements
  • Troubleshoot integration and sustainment anomalies across hardware/software life cycles
  • Investigate emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements and for potential application to internal business strategies
  • Monitor supplier performance to ensure system integrity and compliance with requirements
  • Coordinate suppliers, test labs, and cross-discipline engineering to deliver on schedule and cost
  • Solve problems concerning fielded hardware and software over the entire product lifecycle
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to process improvements and technical standards
