About The Position

The Engineering Intern will support Vehicle Maintenance engineering activities at the Car House and Everett Main Repair. The intern will assist with vehicle-related projects, learn basic vehicle systems and operations, support documentation of rebuild and test processes, assist with second-source material reviews, collect and record engineering data, and support ongoing Vehicle Maintenance initiatives. We are looking to hire three (3) interns, who will work onsite (40 hours per week) for at least three (3) months, September - November.

Requirements

  • Enrolled, for entire duration of employment, in the undergraduate / bachelor's degree program of an accredited college / university in mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, electronic engineering, electronic engineering technology, or computer engineering.
  • Above average proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and database applications).
  • Above average ability to gather, review, and organize information from records, documents, specifications, and technical materials.
  • Above average organizational, analytical, time management, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work professionally with internal and external customers.
  • Above average ability to communicate effectively in English, both in written and oral forms.
  • Highly organized, motivated, and have great attention-to-detail.
  • Strong interest in public service, transit, or transportation and how it operates.
  • Above average ability to work effectively in diverse, collaborative, fast-paced environments as well as independently.
  • Ability to independently commute to assigned work locations in the Boston, MA metro area, as required by the role.
  • Authorized to work in the United States (international students in CPT, STEM, or OPT programs through a university are eligible to apply).
  • Intern / co-op staff must be enrolled full or part-time in an accredited educational program and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 for the entire duration of the internship / co-op.
  • Interns / co-ops must have valid work authorization and U.S. Social Security Number prior to starting pre-employment screenings / pre-boarding, working in their positions, and throughout the duration of their program.

Responsibilities

  • Document rebuild processes at Everett Main Repair.
  • Assist with documenting test procedures and engineering validation activities.
  • Support second-source material reviews, including review of data sheets, specifications, and related technical documentation.
  • Assist with the MBTA RFID Program and other Vehicle Maintenance projects.
  • Work with Car House staff, Everett staff, and engineers to learn vehicle systems and shop operations.
  • Assist with wheel measurements and support the Flange Angle Task within Vehicle Maintenance.
  • Gather, organize, and record data to support engineering tests, reviews, and project documentation.
  • Participate in team / staff meetings, organization events, fieldwork, project teams, or other duties as needed.
  • Provide internal and external customers with courteous and professional experience.
  • Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.
