About The Position

ADESA, a Carvana-owned company, operates in over 50 locations across the US, providing a wide array of vehicle services including repair, reconditioning, and auction remarketing. Our inventory is vast, and we foster a collaborative, fun, fast-paced, and competitive work environment. ADESA is undergoing a multi-year expansion with significant investments in facilities, sales growth, and inventory. The Inspection Lead will report to the Inspections Manager and will be the direct people leader for a team of Vehicle Inspectors. This role focuses on overseeing the quality and productivity of inspections, with the ability to conduct hands-on inspections when necessary. It is an hourly, non-exempt people leader position without hire/fire authority. Depending on site size, this role may also manage the arbitration process, which involves applying arbitration guidelines, researching claims, negotiating to keep sales intact, and minimizing auction loss through research and relationship management.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • 3–5 years of Inspections related experience.
  • If arbitration leadership, ability to discern complex regulations and determine applicability to specific situations.
  • Prior leadership experience is highly preferred, with a proven ability to manage direct reports and hold them accountable.
  • Proficiency with computer systems, including desktop and handheld devices, OBD scanners, paint meters, etc.
  • Must be 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license that meets requirements.
  • Able to safely drive a variety of vehicle makes, models, and sizes.
  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Hiring is contingent on passing a complete background check.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day activities of assigned team under the guidance of designated manager; monitor and ensure adherence to systems, policies, procedures, and performance standards.
  • Participate in performance management processes: identify team member’s strengths and weaknesses; determine areas of opportunity and take appropriate steps to improve; address performance issues.
  • Provide recommendations to senior leadership during the recruiting/selection process and escalated performance concerns.
  • Monitor and act on WIP pipeline, vehicle inspection metrics and inspector performance dashboards to meet KPI’s, customer SLA’s and volume fluctuations.
  • Perform hands-on inspections as needed.
  • Interact with all levels of team members, customers, vendors.
  • Proactively communicate information to team members, providing a clear understanding of expectations, performance measures, and goals.
  • Schedule team to align with volume fluctuations and customer SLA’s; monitor, review, and approve/deny PTO requests and timecards.
  • Recommend cost-effective solutions to support inspection initiatives, team engagement, and team needs.
  • Oversee the onboarding and training of new team members, ensuring they are proficient in standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and technical systems.
  • Ensure department safety compliance and promote a high degree of safety focus within the team during all lot movements.
  • Assure good operating condition of equipment and organization of inspection work areas.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the designated manager.
