About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Administration is seeking applicants for a Vehicle/Equipment Repair Technician II for our Motor Fleet Management division. This division is responsible for maintaining a State Fleet of passenger/cargo vehicles for purchasing, assigning, providing maintenance/repair, and monitoring and disposal of vehicles at the end of their life cycle. The division operates a fleet of 7,300 vehicles on a $37 million yearly budget. The division also monitors vehicle misuses, accidents, and vehicle preventive maintenance schedules using Fleet Best Practices and operates a Cabinet Member inventory of vehicle and trailer titles.

Requirements

Considerable knowledge of the techniques and methods involved in determining and solving automotive mechanical difficulties using computer diagnostic equipment and common sense.
Ability to use and operate the various machines and instruments commonly found in an automotive repair shop.
Considerable knowledge of automotive preventative maintenance as well as repairing various automotive systems like heating/cooling systems, steering/suspension systems, braking/safety systems, and more.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Physical strength is sufficient to work at heavy manual labor for considerable periods of time.
Employees are required to wear a uniform, use safety equipment and follow safety regulations which are provided by the state.
The position requires standing for long periods of time and performing manual labor.
Work requires visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
The position may require exposure to extreme environmental conditions.
Work is subject to noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and/or oils.
Work requires the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Valid NC Driver's License with acceptable driving record.
Out of State Applicants must have valid Driver's License or acquire NC Driver's License within 60 days of hire.
Candidate must present proof of a valid NC Driver's License and proof of an acceptable driving record.
Individual must obtain a Vehicle Safety Inspection License, if not already certified, within 6 months of employment.
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of experience in the area of assignment, or a sufficient year-for-year combination of education and experience in the repair work to which assigned; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart F.

Nice To Haves

Demonstrated experience in heating and air conditioning systems.
Familiarity with ARI Fleet Garage Management Systems (GMS) or equivalent Auto Garage/Vehicle Workshop Management Software System.
Manufacturer or ASE certifications in vehicle repair.
