About The Position

The primary purpose of the Vehicle/Equipment Repair Technician II position is to maintain vehicles and equipment for J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center to ensure safety to all occupants of these vehicles. This position performs diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment. Vehicle and equipment types include passenger cars, passenger and cargo vans, buses, gasoline and diesel-powered mowing equipment, utility bucket trucks, hand powered equipment, and earth moving equipment. This position is responsible for inspecting facility vehicles (vans, buses, trucks & cars) mechanical components and engine, diagnosing a wide range of repairs (electrical, AC, wheelchair & rail lifts, etc.) of vehicles & grounds equipment (mowers, tractors, bucket truck, earth & snow moving equipment) while performing preventive maintenance and repair work on 90+ facility vehicles to ensure each vehicle operates in a safe, reliable manner. This position is required to maintain federal & state mandated documents while completing monthly fuel system pressure testing with documentation. Daily duties include but not limited; inspecting facility vehicles (vans, buses, trucks & cars) mechanical components and engine, diagnosing a wide range of repairs (electrical, AC, wheelchair & rail lifts, etc.) of vehicles & grounds equipment (mowers, tractors, bucket truck, earth & snow moving equipment) while performing preventive maintenance and repair work on 90+ facility vehicles to ensure each vehicle operates in a safe, reliable manner. This position is required to maintain federal & state mandated documents while completing monthly fuel system pressure testing with documentation. Candidates must be familiar with electronic control systems with experience using computerized diagnostic equipment, including possessing organizational, troubleshooting, communication, and customer service skills. This position also requires an issued State credit card and is responsible for requesting quotes from vendors, purchasing parts and completing paperwork for Purchasing Department. This position is required to complete annual online UST training as tank operator.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of experience in the area of assignment, or a sufficient year-for-year combination of education and experience in the repair work to which assigned; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Moderate walking, standing, climbing, lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Work involves inside garage and exterior environment, around moving objects, vehicles & machinery with moving parts.
  • Exposure to dampness & humidity, toxic chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline & diesel fuel.
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

Nice To Haves

  • Documented experience in repair of gas and/or diesel-powered engines.
  • Experience with electronic control systems with experience using computerized diagnostic equipment.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class B/CDL) for vehicle operations over 26,001lbs.
  • Current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart F.
