About The Position

Buyers are responsible for obtaining United Auto Group used car inventory through appraisals and by attending off-site auctions. This position is filled internally by those who have successfully completed the Buyer in Training program.

Requirements

  • Make independent judgments regarding important business decisions involving the purchase of auto group vehicle inventory.
  • Make detailed financial decisions within strict timeframes, and retain crucial information regarding the retail and wholesale vehicle market.
  • Prepare, read and understand store-level reports.
  • Demonstrate solid communication skills with both internal and external customers. This entails speaking and listening effectively during interactions with our retail customers and also interactions with store associates in group and individual settings.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail, adhere to code of business conduct or associate integrity policy; adhere to attendance standards, and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Multi-task in a high-energy, fast-paced work environment.
  • Demonstrate effective analytical skills, oftentimes involving statistical management while making quick decisions about business assets.
  • Understand auto warranties, structural aspects of automobiles, past auction sales and trends, pricing, and reconditioning costs.
  • Successfully complete on-the-job, classroom, and mentor training.
  • Use word processing, spreadsheet, and our software applications, and displaying intermediate PC skills.
  • Flexibility to work in an indoor/outdoor environment, ability to walk or stand for long periods of time, and be able to work in any inclement weather for several hours.
  • Flexible work hours with shifts that may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Wear professional clothing (acquired through the company ) at all times while working.
  • Position requires valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and negotiate current market prices, understand and assess vehicle damage and subsequent costs involved with the damage, and make financially sound purchasing decisions for the company.
  • Assess and prepare customer appraisals including the determination of a United Auto Group written offer for vehicle appraisal.
  • Oversee on-site wholesale auctions and attend off-site auctions (up to 20% overnight travel is required).
  • Manage retail margins, as well as, work with other departments to create strong customer experiences.
  • Work with Sales Department to deliver appraisals to customers with a detailed explanation of the offer.
  • Mentor and supervise BIT’s and/or Buyer’s Assistants.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service.
