About The Position

ACRT Pacific is seeking energetic entry-level professionals who enjoy working outdoors for a full-time Vegetation Management Inspector position. This role is ideal for individuals with an educational background in forestry, horticulture, arboriculture, biology, environmental studies, conservation, or related disciplines who wish to gain experience in these fields. The Vegetation Management Inspectors patrol for hazard trees, perform identification, inspection, and evaluation of trees and brush along utility lines. They also assist in submitting inspection results to clients with recommendations, plan, direct, and coordinate the activities of assigned tree clearance crews, discuss and negotiate line-clearance crew access issues, and serve as a liaison between clients, tree crews, and client customers. Active TRAQ Certification is required, and candidates must reside within 50 miles of Grass Valley, CA. This position is designated as a safety-sensitive role.

Requirements

  • Active TRAQ Certification required
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Required to maintain a Class C driver’s license
  • One (1) year of related arboricultural experience, OR ISA Certified Arborist, OR 2-year or 4-year college degree in a related field
  • Approval by PG&E Representative Required
  • Ability to identify local trees and knowledge of growth rates.
  • Ability to learn and use company- or job-specific software systems.
  • Ability to work in rugged terrain and inclement weather.

Responsibilities

  • Perform circuit patrols in accordance with the annual VM plan, VM patrol standards and processes.
  • Identify required tree work along existing utility rights-of-way, prescribing tree work to be performed and documenting inspections.
  • Ensure inspections meet applicable standards and understand the associated scope.
  • Notify property owners/agencies when tree work will occur and obtain necessary authorizations.
  • Act as the VM contact for new business and re-construction work requested by the energy delivery organization.
  • Perform work verification inspections, verifying applicable inspection and tree work completion and quality.
  • Perform investigation and documentation of tree-related outages and attend outage meetings as requested.
  • Complete tracking, field checking, prescribing of work, and notifying customers associated with non-routine locations (e.g., Electric Corrective (EC/LC) notifications, Gas OCW notifications, Customer Care & Billing (CC&B) cases).
  • Assist in closing out CC&B cases in the field after fielding the case.
  • Support emergency response as directed by OEC, or level one operations, such as dispatching tree crews, field checking sites, and first responder agreements.
  • Independently complete tasks assigned by the supervisor.
  • Support oversight of vegetation projects, including field operations such as tree assessment, tree trimming, and other work as required.
  • Participate in Contractor safety and tailboard meetings.
  • Act as a customer relations representative on behalf of the client (e.g., PG&E).
  • Provide support and coordination between contractors, communities, agencies, first responders, and all other stakeholders involved in vegetation projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including annual permits, encroachment permits, traffic control plans, railroad permits, Caltrans permits, and environmental protection measures.
  • Be proficient in electronic devices and documentation.
  • Complete electronic and paper-based documentation and reporting as assigned.
  • Patrol distribution or transmission circuits and prescribe work to be performed by the tree contractor, ensuring clearances maintain compliance for a minimum of one calendar year.
  • Determine when the next trim is required and whether a trim or removal is necessary, assessing all trees with the potential to strike facilities for failure likelihood and hazards.
  • Prescribe required tree pruning and tree/brush removal work needed to facilitate completion of electric compliance tags to meet regulatory requirements and/or standards.
  • Notify property owners of tree pruning and tree/brush removal work to be performed.
  • Map circuits using the client's continuity list.
  • Manage EC notifications and cases, perform outage investigations, obtain permits from public agencies when necessary, and document work in the VMDSR (or other assigned databases) using a hand-held computer or an iOS compatible mobile device.
  • Use computers and associated software, enter data into and process data from hand-held devices as required.
  • Perform all necessary duties for emergency response in accordance with safety requirements, laws, regulations, and applicable labor agreements.
  • Maintain direct contact with client division personnel, public agencies, and customers as directed by the client representative.

Benefits

  • In lieu of benefits amount of $10.19 per hour that is paid to you for every eligible hour worked.
  • $50.00 daily subsistence payment for each day worked in excess of 4 hours.
