About The Position

ACRT Pacific is seeking energetic entry-level professionals who enjoy working outdoors for a full-time Vegetation Management Inspector position. This role is ideal for individuals with an educational background in forestry, horticulture, arboriculture, biology, environmental studies, conservation, or related disciplines who wish to gain experience in these fields. The Vegetation Management Inspectors patrol for hazard trees, perform identification, inspection, and evaluation of trees and brush along utility lines. They also assist in submitting inspection results to clients with recommendations, plan and direct the activities of assigned tree clearance crews, discuss and negotiate line-clearance crew access issues, and serve as a liaison between clients, tree crews, and client customers. This position is designated as a safety-sensitive role and requires residing within 50 miles of Placerville, CA, and holding a TRAQ Certificate.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Required to maintain a Class C driver’s license
  • One (1) year experience as a VMI or equivalent on utility contract
  • Ability to identify local trees and knowledge of growth rates.

Responsibilities

  • Perform circuit patrols in accordance with the annual VM plan, VM patrol standards and processes.
  • Identify required tree work along existing utility rights-of-way, prescribing tree work to be performed, and documenting inspections.
  • Notify property owners/agencies when tree work will occur and obtain necessary authorizations.
  • Act as the VM contact for new business and re-construction work.
  • Perform work verification inspections, verifying applicable inspection and tree work completion and quality.
  • Perform investigation and documentation of tree-related outages and attend outage meetings.
  • Track, field check, prescribe work, and notify customers associated with non-routine locations (e.g., EC/LC notifications, Gas OCW notifications, CC&B cases).
  • Assist in closing out CC&B cases in the field.
  • Support emergency response as directed by OEC or level one operations, including dispatching tree crews, field checking sites, and acting as a first responder.
  • Independently complete tasks assigned by the supervisor.
  • Support oversight of vegetation projects, including field operations such as tree assessment and trimming.
  • Participate in Contractor safety and tailboard meetings.
  • Act as a customer relations representative.
  • Provide support and coordination between contractors, communities, agencies, first responders, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including annual permits, encroachment permits, traffic control plans, railroad permits, Caltrans permits, and environmental protection measures.
  • Be proficient in electronic devices and documentation.
  • Complete electronic and paper-based documentation and reporting as assigned.
  • Patrol distribution or transmission circuits and prescribe work to be performed by the tree contractor, ensuring compliance for a minimum of one calendar year.
  • Determine when the next trim is required and whether a trim or removal is necessary, assessing all trees for failure likelihood and hazards.
  • Prescribe required tree pruning and tree/brush removal work to meet regulatory requirements and/or utility standards.
  • Notify property owners of tree pruning and tree/brush removal work to be performed.
  • Map circuits using the utility's continuity list.
  • Manage EC notifications and cases, perform outage investigations, obtain permits from public agencies, and document work in assigned databases using a hand-held computer or mobile device.
  • Use computers and associated software, enter data into and process data from hand-held devices.
  • Perform all necessary duties for emergency response in accordance with safety requirements, laws, regulations, and applicable labor agreements.
  • Maintain direct contact with utility division personnel, public agencies, and customers as directed.

  • In lieu of benefits amount of $11.36 per hour that is paid to you for every eligible hour worked.
  • $50.00 daily subsistence payment for each day worked in excess of 4 hours.
