About The Position

The Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) Manager leads day-to-day delivery of VDC/BIM services across company projects. The role supports operations, marketing, preconstruction, and construction with VDC/BIM tools and techniques, ensuring company standards and workflows are consistently applied from project pursuit through closeout. Reporting directly to the Virtual Design and Construction Director, the manager leads the VDC team, coordinates project-level resources, and helps deploy new technologies in alignment with company strategy and goals.

Requirements

Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
At least 7 years of experience in commercial and industrial construction, including experience working for a General Contractor.
At least 5 years of experience as a VDC/BIM professional.
Core understanding of building systems, construction methods, installation procedures, and sequencing.
Proficiency with the Autodesk suite, particularly Navisworks Manage and Revit.
Interest in advancing construction coordination and management practices using available tools and technology.
Proactively pursue personal development to remain proficient in the latest BIM technologies and programs.
Proven supervisory and leadership experience, or demonstrated readiness to lead a team.
Ability to build effective relationships that reflect and support the company’s core values and interests.
Creativity in problem-solving and developing new processes.
Experience in BIM management.
Valid state-issued driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and vehicle insurance meeting Alston Construction liability coverage requirements.
OSHA 30-hour Safety Certification is required.

Nice To Haves

A BS in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Architectural Engineering is preferred, but is not required given appropriate work experience.

Responsibilities

Implement and uphold VDC/BIM processes and standards across assigned projects and departments.
Partner with project teams and business leaders to advance adoption of VDC/BIM technology.
Manage and supervise BIM Coordinators and VDC support staff, including assignments, resource allocation, and performance reviews.
Mentor, develop, and train team members.
Work with Preconstruction to develop project-specific BIM Execution Plans and BIM schedules.
Lead and facilitate multi-trade model coordination meetings, including clash detection, issue tracking, and resolution using Navisworks and Revit.
Maintain and improve BIM coordination workflows, model standards, and templates.
Verify model quality, level of development, and design-team and subcontractor deliverables against project requirements.
Provide VDC services and support to Marketing, Business Development, Preconstruction, and Construction.
Coordinate creation of animations, renders, and presentation deliverables for project pursuits.
Support deployment and field use of 3D scanning, aerial surveying, reality capture, GPS, BIM, and robotic layout.
Collaborate with Estimating to use 3D models for take-offs and presentations.
Work with Scheduling/Preconstruction to support 4D scheduling.
Assist the VDC Director with developing and managing the yearly VDC budget, and track project-level VDC costs and resource utilization.
Engage with jobsites and relevant departments to foster communication, gather feedback, and identify VDC/BIM implementation challenges and future needs.
Promote VDC/BIM workflows and tools at jobsites and arrange training for jobsite personnel to maximize process benefits and ROI.
Report VDC activities, project status, and lessons learned to the VDC Director, escalating risks or resource constraints as needed.
