About The Position

VDC Managers support project teams and corporate departments in the implementation and use of Virtual Design and Construction tools and processes. This role involves supporting project teams and corporate departments in the implementation and use of Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) tools and processes. The VDC Manager will be responsible for designing and implementing VDC strategies throughout the project life cycle, from design and construction to facilities management. They will provide leadership and guidance for BIM implementation, manage the VDC project setup process, and lead VDC implementation opportunities across various project phases including Marketing, Pursuit, Pre-construction, and Construction. The role also includes leading BIM meetings and coordination sessions, interacting with jobsites to understand VDC implementations, establishing and maintaining 3D model coordinates, creating 2D and 3D site logistics phasing plans, and federating 3D content. Additionally, the VDC Manager will integrate laser scan point clouds with Building Information Models, create or assist in creating 4D schedules and simulations, learn and apply VDC processes and standards, comprehend construction documents for VDC application, provide necessary models and documents, incorporate design updates, analyze models for errors, and assist project personnel with VDC goals through training and support. The position also requires tracking and reporting VDC metrics, facilitating collaboration among VDC personnel, participating in strategic VDC initiatives, and representing the company in industry speaking opportunities. Safety is a critical aspect of this role, requiring adherence to all safety procedures, reporting incidents, wearing PPE, advising on hazards, participating in inspections, complying with statutory requirements, and attending safety meetings.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, or a related field. Equivalent experience in the building industry acceptable
  • Ten (10) + years’ experience working a BIM or VDC-related role, preferably in the construction industry
  • Expert level Software knowledge in one or more of the following: Autodesk Revit Navisworks Manage AutoCAD Solibri
  • Experience with Trimble Project Sight and/or Autodesk Construction Cloud
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills required (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel specifically)
  • Willingness to work on active construction project sites

Nice To Haves

  • An undergraduate University degree or higher (preferably in Construction Management, Engineering, or a closely related field) is preferred
  • Familiarity with other BIM tools preferred: Trimble Sketchup Civil 3D 3D Max Recap Pro Tekla Structures Autodesk Point Layout
  • Experience in BIM process and software training preferred
  • Experience in MEP Coordination strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement VDC strategy throughout the project life cycle from design and construction to facilities management
  • Provide leadership and guidance for BIM implementation
  • Manage and implement VDC project setup process
  • Lead VDC implementation opportunities in the Marketing, Pursuit, Pre-construction, and Construction phases of a Project
  • Lead BIM meetings and design or MEP coordination sessions
  • Interact regularly with jobsites and maintain an understanding of project VDC implementations
  • Establish, document, and maintain 3D model coordinates
  • Create 2D and 3D site logistics phasing plans
  • Federate 3D content modeled by others, and model any content not provided
  • Laser scan point cloud integrations with Building Information Models
  • Create, or assist project staff, in creating and maintaining 4D schedules and simulations
  • Assumes responsibility for learning the VDC processes and standards; applies them to assigned projects
  • Reads and comprehends construction documents and applies them to VDC processes
  • Provides models and documents necessary to complete scope determined by VDC leadership and project teams
  • Incorporates design updates into project models
  • Analyzes models, looks for errors and omissions, and makes corrections as necessary
  • Assist project personnel in the implementation of the VDC goals on their projects through training and support
  • Track and report on VDC metrics for each project
  • Facilitate ongoing collaboration among VDC personnel including the sharing of best practices and lessons learned
  • Actively participate in and lead ongoing strategic initiatives related to VDC and innovation
  • Participate in speaking opportunities within the industry and focus groups
