About The Position

Egan, a mechanical contractor established in 1919, is seeking a VDC Layout Detailer to join their team. This role is responsible for transforming coordinated BIM models into fabrication-ready and installation-ready deliverables. The position focuses on producing fabrication documentation, detailed install drawings, spool drawings, shop drawing production, material takeoffs, and providing support for fabrication and field installation activities. The VDC Layout Detailer will collaborate closely with VDC Coordinators and VDC Layout Design Leads. Egan is looking for individuals who prioritize safety, integrity, passion, and customer value.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of detailing experience.
  • Ability to read and understand engineered contract drawings.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, piping, fabrication, and field installation workflows.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work with VDC Coordinators and Designers.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong organization, planning, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Valid driver license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Mechanical and plumbing field experience preferred.
  • Experience creating shop drawings, spool drawings, weld maps, installation packages, or fabrication release packages preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed shop drawings for fabrication and installation.
  • Create spool drawings showing dimensions, weld locations, and fabrication requirements.
  • Generate assembly drawings and skid drawings when required.
  • Create weld maps and installation package drawings.
  • Ensure drawings comply with project specifications and fabrication standards.
  • Generate ISO drawings for flushing tests, welder IDs, and related documentation.
  • Review spool drawings for dimensional accuracy.
  • Validate BOMs against spool drawings and fabrication requirements.
  • Respond to fabrication shop questions regarding spool packages.
  • Support field installation teams with drawing clarifications.
  • Provide drawing revisions resulting from field conditions or project changes.
  • Update fabrication documents to reflect approved changes.
