About The Position

VDC Engineer II’s are responsible for all aspects of VDC projects per the direction of the VDC Prefab/Construction Manager. This role involves accurately populating coordination models with electrical equipment, creating schedules, designing prefabricated elements, and producing various shop and installation drawings. The engineer will also be involved in clash detection, communicating with project teams, and ensuring tasks are completed with minimal errors and on schedule.

Requirements

  • Proficient skills in AutoCAD 2D and 3D as well as all AutoDesk products such as Revit, Navisworks, Glue 360, etc.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office: (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook).
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, project specifications and contract documents and apply this information to installation drawings, shop drawings, and spool drawings.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and write instructions and memos.
  • Ability to understand and follow detailed instructions and safety guideline furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated success working in project teams.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, contract documents and procedure manuals and convey this information to other employees.
  • For the purpose of receiving instructions and complying with safety standards, must have the ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Must also possess sufficient speech, writing and communication skills necessary to effectively communicate with project team, supervise employees, and carry out other job functions and responsibilities.
  • Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists using independent judgment and discretion.
  • Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must be able to understand and apply all instructions and safety guidelines.
  • Must have the ability to think analytically and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations and work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Engineering or Construction Science preferred.
  • OSHA 30 certification (may be obtained through Enterprise Solutions upon hire).

Responsibilities

  • Accurately populate lights, cable tray, and electrical equipment, according to submittals, in the coordination model.
  • Populate Revit content property fields with accurate submittal data and upkeep per revisions.
  • Create homerun schedules and feeder schedules in accordance with the specifications of the job and the National Electric Code.
  • Create overhead prefabricated rack maps illustrating design intent per the homerun schedules.
  • Populate efficient overhead racks in the coordination model with intent to prefabricate.
  • Populate power distribution in accordance with efficient design of modular electrical rooms, underground cages, duct banks, etc.
  • Produce all shop drawings, installation drawings, and spool drawings required throughout coordination.
  • Read and interpret contract documents, submittmits, and job specifications.
  • Apply knowledge of National Electrical Codes.
  • Demonstrate basic usage of Revit systems and programs.
  • Assist in clash detection and resolution to coordinate the model with other trades.
  • Design modular electric rooms with intent to efficiently prefabricate.
  • Complete all assigned tasks with minimal repeated errors.
  • Lead multiple projects at one time.
  • Lead coordination calls efficiently and professionally.
  • Produces efficient coordination solutions.
  • Ability to take a project from start finish; design model to coordination model to shop drawings to as-builts.
  • Produce and export accurate Trimble points for both establishing control and laying out electrical components.
  • Communicate and interface effectively with other members of the project team: VDC team members; pre-fabrication team; job field leadership; project management.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Complete required modelling, coordination, and drawings on schedule.
  • Work constructively with the entire project team.
  • Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.
