About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring the cloud runs smoothly. This role is part of a diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers who collaborate across AWS to maintain the highest standards of safety and security while providing infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost. The VDC BIM Designer will be part of a creative and efficient multi-discipline BIM design team, working on complex projects with innovative solutions for Amazon-owned Data Center facilities. This role supports the central engineering team by preparing federated BIM models and BIM data, influencing Data Center design documents through multi-disciplinary coordination, clash detection and resolution, constructability reviews, building code compliance, and design optimization. The designer will produce and maintain coordinated BIM for the fleet of Data Centers, which are industry-leading examples of innovation in space utilization, energy efficiency, and cost-effectiveness, known for speed to market and reliability.

Requirements

  • Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission-critical facilities, especially data centers.
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience with Autodesk Revit and BIM coordination.
  • 3+ years of producing construction drawings for mission-critical facilities.
  • Experience with Navisworks.
  • Experience with Autodesk Forma or ACC (Autodesk Construction Cloud).

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
  • Knowledge of commercial or industrial power systems or mechanical systems.
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
  • Experience using a variety of web-based and other software tools for calculation and data processing.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate consolidated templates, insource, and trades models of Data Centers.
  • Utilize Revit and Navisworks to maintain standards.
  • Work independently and within a team environment to accomplish assigned tasks, including collaboration with internal groups, external suppliers, consultants, manufacturers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Update and modify existing models, studies, and construction documents as required.
  • Assist with creating, maintaining, and enforcing BIM templates and standards.
  • Audit project deliverables and monitor quality.
  • Lead design coordination meetings with other trades for clash detection and resolution.
  • Work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical locations.
  • Assist the project team with information exchange processes between internal and external customers.
  • Provide coordination support for information requests during construction phases.
  • Record and report key metrics to management.
  • Travel to Data Center sites for engineering evaluations and surveys as required (on average, once or twice a year).
  • Offer creative, out-of-the-box solutions.
  • Collaborate across disciplines and teams to refine data center designs.
  • Create detailed models, drawings, and specifications.
  • Update managers and leaders of changes to the building design.
  • Engage in design discussions and review feedback from peers and collaborators.
  • Adjust designs to ensure data center solutions meet the highest standards of efficiency and quality.
