About The Position

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) through the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) administers the Compensation & Pension (C&P) Program for benefits to Veterans, Service Members, their dependents, and their survivors. Congress enacted Public Law 104-275 which authorized VA to contract for medical examinations from non-VA medical sources. This Project is established in support of the VA effort to provide disability examination services. The psychiatrist is responsible for mental evaluation of patients, diagnosing, or ruling out mental disorders based on current DSM that may be attributable to military service. The Psychiatrist must be able to properly evaluate conditions and clearly provide written evaluation notes via required forms.

Requirements

  • Current and unrestricted license to practice Psychiatry in the US, US Territory or Canada.
  • American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support Certification required.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working fulltime as a psychiatrist.
  • Experience with adult psychiatry.
  • Knowledge of crisis assessment modalities and techniques.
  • Knowledge of current DSM criteria.
  • Medical Degree [MD] or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine [DO].
  • Board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry from the American Academy of Psychiatry and Neurology.
  • Ability to assess and accurately diagnose adult patients.
  • Consistently treat all patients with dignity and respect.
  • Excellent oral, listening and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Verbal and written communication must be constructive, effective, respectful, and concise.
  • Integrity to respect confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Excellent IT skills including use of electronic medical records systems.
  • Ability to work independently, efficiently, and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with persons of diverse economic background in a culturally competent manner.
  • Ability to function with accuracy and efficiency in high pressure or emergent situations.
  • Result oriented and able to meet project deliverables.
  • Cultural sensitivity and religious awareness with the willingness to work with a foreign national patient population.
  • A valid US Passport or Passport from Country of Record.

Responsibilities

  • Provide psychiatry care examinations in accordance with established Disability Benefit Questionnaires provided through the VA.
  • Evaluate patients through interviews, observations, standardized tests, and medical history reviews.
  • Analyze screening data, results, and assessments to accurately diagnose patients.
  • Refer patients for psychological testing to determine a severity of diagnosis.
  • Document patient's assessment, diagnosis, symptoms, and medication.
  • Ensure that all medical records are accurately documented and maintained.
  • Provide clinical reports to International SOS Government Medical Services, Inc. Facility Medical Director.
  • Promotes quality and safe service for patients and staff by enforcing, policies, procedures, standards rules.
  • Ensure best practice in accordance with DSM clinical guidelines and SOPs.
  • Support the clinical excellence framework under the direction of the Facility Medical Director.
  • Maintain and improve clinical quality through audit and quality improvement activity.
  • Ensure safe and appropriate use of medication.
  • Understand their role in the organization’s clinical governance program.
