Requirements

  • Completion of a training program accredited by the American Medical Association – Committee on Allied Health Education (AMA-CAHEA) for vascular ultrasound, upon hire
  • Registered Vascular Technologist, within 12 - months
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire

  • one year of post-graduate experience in vascular ultrasound and/or demonstrated high degree of proficiency, knowledge, and acuity in the field of diagnostics or ultrasound

Responsibilities

  • Perform non-invasive vascular diagnostic examinations to assess blood flow and detect abnormalities in arteries and veins.
  • Prepare patients, operate specialized ultrasound equipment to capture and evaluate high-quality images, and precisely document findings for physician interpretation.
  • Prepare patient/operate ultrasound equipment and employ techniques/procedures to ensure results are consistent and capture the correct detail of a requested area, per physicians’ direction and in adherence to department protocols.
  • Question patients and/or review patient charts for facts of patient history which are pertinent to interpretation of ultrasound examinations by the interpreting physician; obtains a brief medical history through interview and review of the patient’s chart; explains testing procedures, allays concerns and elicits patient cooperation.
  • Ensure examination equipment is maintained and functioning appropriately before the onset of an examination; calibrates, cleans and performs routine maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning; recognizes and reports the malfunctioning of equipment in accordance with established procedures.
  • Utilize equipment/accessories determines and sets technical factors (control settings); determines correct techniques to obtain images of the highest quality and resolution.
  • Apply gel to the skin of the target area and manipulate an ultrasound probe (transducer) to obtain images of the blood vessels and to assess blood flow; selects and photographs appropriate ultrasonic images for review and interpretation of a physician; ensures that emergent exam results are relayed promptly to the appropriate physician or medical floor.
  • Deliver patient care for all age groups while performing vascular examinations.
