About The Position

Great opportunity to support patients and care team at our Vascular Surgery Progressive Care Unit at Barnes Jewish Hospital! This is a full-time position with 36 hours per week, working nights from 7 pm to 7 am, including holiday rotation and every third weekend. The Vascular Surgery Progressive Care Unit (Division 7500/75PCU) is a fast-paced cardiovascular surgery division with 25 beds, caring for complex patients with conditions such as aortic and abdominal aneurysms, thoracic outlet syndrome, carotid artery disease, aorto-iliac and lower extremity occlusive disease, peripheral vascular disease, arrhythmia surgery, endoscopic coronary artery revascularization, and valve repair. The Patient Care Tech provides direct patient care to support licensed professional nurses, ensuring a safe environment by reducing the risk of harm. They collect vital information on patients and report changes to the nursing team, contributing to the overall assessment of each patient.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • No Experience
  • No Experience (Supervisor Experience)

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Nurse Assistant
  • CNA, nurse assistant, emergency medical technician, or surgical technician experience

Responsibilities

  • Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nurse, promoting patient and family centered care in a healing environment.
  • Administers or assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), performs vital signs, intake & output, fall and pressure ulcer prevention measures, urinary catheter care, phlebotomy, or point of care testing as requested.
  • Collects clinical data and information on patients, and reports changes in patient status to the nurse.
  • Assists nurse with patient and family education.
  • Documents all patient care activities provided with correct medical terminology.
  • Acts as 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
  • Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient's needs.
  • Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Participates in professional development.
