About The Position

The Vascular Access Technician performs and documents direct routine patient care under licensed provider's supervision according to hospitals guidelines.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of patient care and basic human needs within life span.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of aseptic techniques.
  • Knowledge of acute and chronic disease processes.
  • Knowledge of standard universal precautions.
  • Knowledge of anatomic structure and human body systems.
  • Ability to read and write in English.
  • Recognition of lethal EKG rhythms.
  • High School Diploma or GED or Vocational Training.
  • Current Florida EMT or Paramedic license.
  • BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • USGPIV and Powerglide Midline Catheter HealthStream trainings within 6 months of hire or transfer into the job.
  • Less than one year practical clinical experience.

Nice To Haves

  • One year preferred clinical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and document direct routine patient care under licensed provider's supervision.
  • Recognize obvious job-related emergencies.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Perform electrocardiograms.
  • Perform urinary catheter insertion.
  • Perform gastric tube insertion.
  • Perform phlebotomy.
  • Perform basic wound care.
  • Perform splinting of musculoskeletal injuries.
  • Operate Automatic External Defibrillator.
  • Perform chest compressions.
  • Perform eye irrigation.
  • Insert vascular access devices with and without the use of ultrasound technology, including triage and selection of appropriate device, and competent assessment of vasculature for patency.
  • Perform vascular access device audits, including site assessment, limb measurements, maintenance of tubing, securement devices, and dressings, and troubleshooting malfunctioning VADs.
  • Document insertion and maintenance of vascular access devices.
  • Educate staff, patients, and family members on the proper use and maintenance of VADs.
  • Accurately document assessments and procedures in EMR.
  • Serve all age groups.
