About The Position

Milton Academy is seeking a Varsity Softball Head Coach for the spring 2027 season, which runs from mid-March through May. The coach must have knowledge of softball and be able to work with and communicate effectively with high school-aged students. The position is responsible for planning practices and games and attracting students to the program. The coach must follow directives from the Milton Academy athletic department and school policies. The Head Coach reports to the Director of Athletics and supervises Assistant Coaches.

Requirements

• Knowledge of softball.
• Previous softball coaching experience.
• Ability to work with and communicate effectively with high school-aged students.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Computer expertise, including proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Cloud.
• Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external constituencies.
• Understanding of confidentiality and related issues.
• Receptiveness to supervision and professional development.
• Ability to work at a computer for up to 8 hours each day in conjunction with OSHA requirements.
• Ability to move around the Milton Academy campus without restriction.
• Ability to lift up to 10 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• Experience as a head coach of a high school softball program.
• Background in private, independent school athletics.

Responsibilities

• Recruit and retain students in the softball program.
• Plan practices and games.
• Collaborate with assistant coaches and delegate responsibilities as appropriate.
• Follow safety practices and Academy policies, including the policies against hazing and bullying.
• Maintain a calm, composed demeanor.
• Follow directives from the athletic department.
