About The Position

This position is for a Varsity Basketball Coach for the Boys' team at Centreville Public Schools. The coach will be responsible for the administration, supervision, and evaluation of the high school basketball program, focusing on the team's success through development, organization, coordination, and interpretation of team activities and functions.

Requirements

Prior basketball coaching experience.
Exhibit high moral and ethical conduct and display a positive value system consistent with the codes and policies of CHS and the MHSAA.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the sport regarding strategy and player development.
Must be able to teach/convey the individual skillsets of the game, and the team aspects and strategies of the game.
Display good judgment in dealing with parents, team, administration, the community, and the media.
Display good team-building skills.
Communicate and work effectively with district coaches, staff members, and the athletic director.
Must be able to demonstrate the time commitment/availability level of the position.
Possess and demonstrate the ability to deal with failures constructively and teach others to do the same.
Fulfill CPS and MHSAA requirements upon hire.

Nice To Haves

Prior varsity coaching experience in an educational environment.
Basketball player experience at least at the varsity high school level (post-HS experience a plus).
Demonstrated proficiency and success developing basketball player skillsets at all positions, building team chemistry, and forming a successful basketball program.
Teacher certification is not required; however, it helps create full-time employment and may be coupled with a teaching position if applicable.
Willingness to work as a part-time or full-time employee of the district.
Demonstrated proficiency and success with problem resolution skills.
Demonstrated proficiency and success creating and effectively delegating responsibilities to the assistant coaching staff.
Demonstrated proficiency and success building a JV coaching staff with goals consistent with the varsity program.
Ability to maximize team needs/wants list for equipment, within the bounds of the school budget.
Ability to make reasonable recommendations to the AD for facility/equipment needs, maintenance/repairs, etc.

Responsibilities

Administer, supervise, and evaluate matters pertaining to Centreville’s high school basketball program.
Ensure the team's success through development, organization, coordination, and interpretation of the team’s activities and functions.
Act as a role model and mentor for student-athletes, exhibiting high moral and ethical conduct and a positive value system.
Teach and convey individual skillsets of the game, as well as team aspects and strategies.
Build and improve player/team proficiency and success.
Display good judgment in dealing with parents, team, administration, community, and media.
Develop good team-building skills within these groups.
Develop a program immersed in the vision of the athletic department, focusing on the holistic development of the student-athlete and the department.
Communicate and work effectively with district coaches, staff members, and the athletic director.
Demonstrate the time commitment and availability required for the position.
Deal with measured failures constructively and teach staff and players to do the same.
Fulfill CPS and MHSAA requirements upon hire.
Create and effectively delegate responsibilities to the assistant coaching staff.
