About The Position

The Chapin School, an independent K-12 day school for girls located in New York City, is seeking a Varsity Assistant Tennis Coach for the 2026 season. Under the direction of the Director of Athletics and Head Tennis Coach, the Varsity Assistant Tennis Coach will provide skill development and planning throughout the season. Candidates should have knowledge and experience within the sport and understand how to teach, mentor, and motivate student-athletes. A Chapin athletic coach demonstrates a clear commitment to the educational philosophy and mission of the School and Athletic Department, is an effective communicator and educator who can teach tennis players of all skill levels and abilities and understands the importance of listening as a key component of teaching. They must understand the sport, possessing in-depth knowledge of fundamental skills, progressions, and strategies, and be able to adapt teaching instruction to all athletes. The coach must model professional leadership and behavior by adhering to the same rules expected of the athletes, displaying a positive attitude, and motivating and inspiring the team. Knowledge of appropriate safety measures to ensure the well-being of student-athletes is also required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Possess or be able to obtain First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Strong tennis coaching experience with high school aged athletes.
  • Ability to attend all team practices, meetings, and games August through November.
  • Must meet and submit all required certifications and documents prior to working with student-athletes (such as Concussion education, First Aid/CPR certification, etc.).

  • Experience working in a school setting.
  • Experience coaching female athletes.

  • Make fair and equitable decisions about appointing lineups, strategy, practice times, support attendance policies.
  • Abide by Chapin’s Coaches Handbook, Student-Athlete Handbook, Chapin’s Mission, NYSAISAA and AAIS policies.
