About The Position

NET Trans is seeking Van Drivers in your community to transport clients to appointments and for shopping. The van will be parked in your driveway, eliminating your commute to work. This is a full-time position with no Sundays required. The role involves operating agency-provided vehicles, including wheelchair lift-equipped vans, using defensive driving techniques, and ensuring safe and timely transportation. Drivers must adhere to all applicable Agency, State, and Federal regulations and attend required driver trainings. Approximately 95% of the employee's time will be dedicated to van operation, which includes providing assistance to clients entering and exiting the van, especially those with mobility impairments or requiring transport in wheelchairs or scooters.

Requirements

  • Must possess a Class D with Endorsement F driver’s license (minimum required).
  • Must pass a pre-hire drug and alcohol test and will be subject to random drug/alcohol testing as required by the FTA/TDOT and other contracts.
  • Must pass a DOT Physical.
  • Must submit a 10 year pre-hire DMV (Department of Motor Vehicle) check.
  • Must submit to a DMV report on an annual basis.
  • Must pass a pre-hire functional ability screening.
  • Must submit to a pre-hire criminal background check.
  • Must be over 21 years of age.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a public transportation system preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Obey all traffic laws and regulations (Agency, State, and Federal) during operation of Agency van.
  • Follow all safety precautions, including defensive driving safety techniques.
  • Ensure the safety of all passengers.
  • Utilize correct passenger assistance techniques during operation of van.
  • Provide assistance to all clients while entering or exiting van.
  • Provide passenger assistance to clients with mobility impairment.
  • Follow correct procedures for transporting clients in wheelchairs, scooters, or similar.
  • Accurately follow instructions from central office.
  • Use correct FCC/TDOT radio/communication procedures.
  • Advise clients to communicate all schedule changes to the central office.
  • Provide service in accordance with Title VI of the Federal Code.
  • Follow all Agency policies and procedures.
  • Maintain complete and accurate daily schedules, mileage and time records.
  • Turn in paperwork and revenue in a timely manner.
  • Perform a daily pre-trip van inspection and report any van problems to the maintenance staff.
  • Keep van clean, both inside and out.
  • Present a clean and well-groomed appearance.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner.
  • Treat clients with dignity and respect.
  • Use concepts of client sensitivity training when dealing with passengers.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client information and records.
  • Transport clients from other routes and counties.
  • Behave as a member of a team.
  • Willing to assist other drivers when needed by the central office.
  • Collect general public fares and follow proper money handling procedures.
  • Abide by Agency rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and Agency handbook.
  • Regular attendance and timeliness is an essential function of this position.
