About The Position

A vacancy exists for a part-time or full-time Van Driver to work within the Office of Business Services at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit. The Van Driver will provide safe and efficient transportation for students on routes as directed throughout Montgomery County, PA.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid PA Drivers' License
  • Three (3) years of professional driving experience and a clean MVR (Motor Vehicle Record)
  • Knowledge of safety regulations
  • Able to operate a van and drive all posted routes, as well as perform all physical duties and carry out other responsibilities as assigned
  • Complies with MCIU drug and alcohol policy and random drug-testing program.
  • Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI.

Responsibilities

  • Operating a school van in a safe and efficient manner and in compliance with all Federal and State DOT regulations
  • Follow safety regulations and traffic laws
  • Maintain student order and discipline in accordance with MCIU guidelines and policies
  • Maps out the most efficient routes for each student using GPS
  • Perform all pre and post trip vehicle inspections
  • Follow routes as directed by Program Administrator – Operations
  • Maintain route log and complete monthly mileage logs
  • Complete transportation access logs
  • Communicate with student's parent/guardian about assigned route
  • Keep van clean and fueled
  • Communicate repair needs to transportation office when needed
  • Assist children in and out of the van and their securements, proper utilization of equipment (e.g. car seats, etc.), and/or handling/securing wheelchairs
  • Maintain professional interactions with all stakeholders
  • Reports all accidents and completes required reports
  • Assists when called upon with any emergency
  • Attends all required training as assigned by the Supervisor
  • Immediately notifies Supervisor of any traffic violations incurred while employed
  • Clerical tasks including, but not limited to, data entry, processing and filing paperwork, preparing documents, and updating reports.
  • Coordinate and manage routes as needed.
  • Present a positive image of the Intermediate Unit, its programs and services.
  • Provide additional student and/or classroom support as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Program Administrator.
