About The Position

The Granite YMCA is seeking a Van Driver / Minibus Driver to join our School Age Childcare team! This flexible role can be tailored to fit your interests and availability. Candidates may choose to work as a transportation driver only or combine driving responsibilities with a Group Leader role within our before and after school programs. This is a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy working with children, have a safe driving record, and want to make a meaningful impact in their community. The position is especially well-suited for retirees seeking flexible, part-time hours or individuals looking for a role that combines transportation and youth programming responsibilities. Positions available at YMCA branches and local elementary schools.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to meet YMCA driver requirements and pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check
  • Experience working with children
  • Positive, patient, and energetic leadership style
  • Ability to safely assist children entering and exiting vehicles
  • Ability to pass all required background checks and screenings

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience driving a van, mini bus, shuttle, or similar passenger vehicle preferred (or willingness to obtain)
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications (or willingness to obtain)

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport children to and from YMCA programs, schools, field trips, and special events using YMCA vans or mini buses while ensuring a positive, welcoming experience for all participants.
  • Maintain active supervision of children at all times, including during transportation, transitions, and program activities.
  • Provide a physically and emotionally safe, inclusive, and engaging environment that supports youth development and well-being.
  • Lead and participate in developmentally appropriate activities that align with YMCA standards and New Hampshire state licensing requirements.
  • Build positive relationships with participants, families, school personnel, and YMCA staff.
  • Conduct attendance checks, headcounts, and ensure all children are safely accounted for during transportation and throughout program operations.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
  • Support behavior management by setting clear expectations and promoting positive interactions among participants.
  • Respond appropriately to incidents, emergencies, and behavioral concerns in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate transportation records, attendance documentation, and other required program paperwork.
  • Collaborate with Site Directors and fellow staff members to ensure high-quality programming and safe daily operations.
  • Assist with extended-day programming, school vacation camps, snow days, field trips, and family engagement events as needed.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, professionalism, and a commitment to creating a positive team culture.
