About The Position

This is a job operating a passenger van on a demand response system, providing transportation to individuals of all ages to satisfy medical appointments, recreational activities, and shopping. The role involves ensuring safe and timely transportation, maintaining the vehicle, and assisting passengers with their needs.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in operating a passenger van, preferably in a skilled-care nursing home environment, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A valid Montana driver's license.
  • Proof of insurability.
  • Successfully pass the GCMC pre-employment driving test.
  • Successfully pass DOT pre-employment drug test and recurring random drug test.
  • Must pass criminal and sexual or violent offenders check.
  • Meet all health requirements required by law.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, establish priorities, and adapt to change.
  • Ability to work with elderly patients.
  • A self-motivated, creative, and positive personality.
  • Ability to work with staff, family members, and the community.
  • Possess patience, good organizational skills, assertiveness, and be a conscientious person.
  • Present a professional appearance.
  • Be available for training, including overnight out-of-town events.

Responsibilities

  • Operate gasoline or diesel powered multi-passenger vehicles to transport passengers between destinations in a safe manner consistent with all MDT rules and regulations.
  • Check the condition of a vehicle's operational and safety equipment before every trip to ensure it is in safe working condition.
  • Fill out daily van inspection form.
  • Report any van malfunctions or needed repairs to the scheduler.
  • Prepare and submit reports including the number of passengers or trips, trip purpose, mileage, etc.
  • Notify scheduler if a rider doesn't show.
  • Turn in trip sheets, fuel receipts, and payments daily.
  • Submit pre-trip inspection sheets weekly.
  • Read maps and follow written and verbal geographic directions.
  • Comply with all traffic regulations to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.
  • Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations to the proper agency or scheduler.
  • Pick up and drop off passengers at scheduled locations, following time schedules.
  • Provide directions and information about van schedules, facilities, and operations to passengers as needed.
  • Serve as a liaison between passengers and the scheduler.
  • Establish good rapport with passengers.
  • Provide assistance to passengers, including operation of wheelchair lift and securement devices, and assistance with boarding, deboarding, and transfers.
  • Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilation systems for passenger comfort.
  • Clean the van after each trip.
  • Maneuver wheelchairs on and off ramps, up curbs, and over thresholds.
  • Assist with small packages as needed.
  • Secure all packages.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive or personal information.
  • Operate telephone and cell phone for communication with the scheduler.
  • Maintain knowledge of first-aid procedures and CPR.
  • Maintain order among passengers during trips to ensure safety.
  • Perform other related duties as needed or assigned.
