About The Position

Under the direction of the Operations Supervisor, the Van Driver Lead will help oversee a bus of 10+ employees as they conduct safe/efficient vehicle movement and parking. The Lead Driver will help preparations on vehicles for various stages of logistics processing. Must be open to overtime.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma Required
  • 5 months to 1 year of experience Required
  • Valid Driver's License Required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Ability to read, write and count
  • Drive both automatic and stick shift vehicles
  • Ability to understand and apply vehicle handling procedures
  • Good depth perception and hand eye coordination
  • Constantly use right and left foot controls
  • Constant use of right and left hands for simple and firm grasping
  • Constant use of right and left hands for fine manipulation
  • Lift usual 5 lbs, up to 55 lbs.
  • Carry usual 5 lbs, up to 55 lbs.
  • Sit and drive 5+ hours per day
  • Stand, climb, kneel, balance, squat, crouch, jump 1-3 hours per day
  • Walk, bend, stoop frequently 3-5 hours per day

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory experience Preferred
  • Automotive experience Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Direct drivers to vehicles and their designated locations.
  • Drive and park vehicles in accordance with the vehicle handling procedures when needed.
  • Obey all traffic laws while operating the vehicle.
  • Follow a set schedule or route.
  • Operate their bus while watching their surroundings to maximize safety.
  • Maintain constant contact with the Supervisor and keep track of pickup and drop-off locations as necessary.
  • Prior to driving vehicles, remind and inform drivers to inspect vehicles to ensure that it is damage-free and functioning correctly.
  • Follow all Port traffic policies and posted speed limits.
  • Report any unsafe conditions or road hazards encountered to management.
  • If their vehicle develops mechanical difficulties or sustains damage of any type, document the problems and report to management.
  • Read and understand parking location maps.
  • Immediately report all accidents or incidents.
  • Assist in enforcing conduct and safety rules in the van.
  • Prepares vehicles for various stages of processing.
  • Performs various yard activities as directed.
  • Performs tire pressure checks using a hand-held pressure gauge.
  • Performs battery condition checks using hand-held equipment.
  • Drives vehicles on/off conveyors.
  • Removes exterior/interior plastic protective wrap.
  • Drives vehicles to fueling stations and through automated car washes.
  • Remove trash from vehicles.
  • Complete checklists as required.
  • Perform scanning for various movement functions.
  • Perform vehicle spotting for other drivers or customers.
  • All other duties as required.
