The Valve Technician is responsible for maintaining and inspecting all functions of water system valves and blowoffs, including those in meter vaults. This role ensures the accessibility, proper functioning, and correct installation of every valve in the ACSA system. The technician must be knowledgeable of ACSA specifications for valve installation to approve warranty work by contractors. Responsibilities include calling in Miss Utility tickets for repairs, training and educating a helper on job aspects, and planning work for a Utility Worker in their absence. The technician must also pre-plan projects, ensuring equipment, parts, and tools are ready. Required knowledge includes computers, the GIS system, and pipe locating equipment. The role requires availability for emergency incidents on nights, holidays, and weekends, and the ability to lead crews in the absence of a Crew Leader. Daily activities must be scheduled for efficient use of personnel and equipment. Oversight of warranty work and sign-off on contractor valve projects are key duties, along with using Cityworks (and GIS) for work orders and documentation.
