About The Position

Guardian Rail is proud to operate one of the country’s leading freight rail services and transportation companies with a large network of freight and tank car repair facilities, a nationwide network of running repair agents, and a rail services division that operates short line railroads and contract switching and transloading sites. Incumbent Valve Technicians are responsible for the removal, tagging for identification for later reapplication, tank car product and pressure relief valves. The person must be able to read and understand Guardian Rail work orders, and make repairs in accordance with FRA, AAR, Guardian Rail, and customer specifications. Candidates must have a safety and quality mindset and enjoy hands-on work in year-round outdoor conditions.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate English at a proficient level
  • Ability to learn function specific operational details and pass an exam to demonstrate knowledge
  • Ability to learn, follow and perform required recordkeeping of Guardian Rail EHS, and Quality policies, procedures, and checklists.
  • Work in hot and cold environment, in and out of the weather; work safely around heavy equipment and on top of, under and inside railcars, as well as around railroad tracks.
  • Knowledge of equipment and tools required to perform safe entry for cleaning
  • Perform/ prioritize multiple tasks with attention to details.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to wear and care for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to steel toed boots, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, and other PPE as required.
  • Ability to work in a confined space

Responsibilities

  • Interpret job work orders to perform required valve removal and repair
  • Coordinate and complete repairs in an efficient manner and within assigned hours
  • Notify supervisor of any materials and/or equipment required to ensure completion of job tasks
  • Interact with crew members in a team environment, as well as with supervisor
  • Follow all safety rules, keep work area clean and comply with all Guardian Rail Environmental Health and Safety Policies
  • Complies with company's Quality program by following all in house quality processes and procedures and required AAR and FRA rules and regulations as well as any client specific procedures.
  • Any other duties as assigned such special projects
