About The Position

A Valve Actuation Technician installs, services, troubleshoots, and maintains valve actuators and related control equipment used in industrial systems. This role ensures that valves open, close, and control flow properly through mechanical, electric, hydraulic, or pneumatic actuation systems.

Requirements

Strong understanding of mechanical systems, electrical circuits, pneumatic/hydraulic components
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
Experience using hand tools, multimeters, pressure gauges, and calibration tools
Knowledge of actuator brands such as Rotork, Bettis, Limitorque, AUMA, or similar
Problem-solving and diagnostic skills
Ability to work in industrial environments (refineries, power plants, water treatment facilities, manufacturing)
High school diploma or GED required
Technical certification or training in instrumentation, electrical, or mechanical fields
1–3+ years of experience in valve or actuator maintenance preferred

Responsibilities

Install, calibrate, and commission electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic valve actuators
Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on actuators, gearboxes, limit switches, solenoid valves, and positioners
Troubleshoot operational issues such as improper stroking, electrical faults, air leaks, or hydraulic failures
Disassemble and reassemble actuators for inspection, repair, and testing
Interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, loop sheets, and technical manuals
Configure and adjust torque switches, travel stops, and control settings
Test actuator performance to ensure accurate valve travel and response times
Work with control systems such as 4–20 mA control signals, Modbus, or other communication protocols
Maintain service records, repair reports, and calibration logs
Adhere to safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and plant standards
Collaborate with engineers, valve technicians, and operations personnel during installation or shutdown work
