About The Position

The Valve Technician I position involves assisting and learning to test and assemble valves according to manufacturer procedures, work orders, or customer specifications. Responsibilities include repairing pressure management valves through tear-down, sandblasting, tagging, sealing, and lapping, adhering to ASME codes and National Board standards. The role requires inspecting and verifying the accuracy of assembled units, preparing and documenting paperwork in Caltrol's software system, and cleaning parts. This position requires working at the main facility and customer sites for equipment tear-down, decontamination, assembly, repair, and testing. The technician will also drive company vehicles for pick-ups and deliveries, perform regular maintenance on shop equipment, and aim to gain hands-on experience to safely repair pressure protection equipment. Participation in drug testing pools, background checks, and random drug testing is mandatory.

Requirements

  • Verbal and written skills to effectively communicate between departments and with customers.
  • Valid CA Driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work weekends and overtime as required to meet customer needs.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Ability to safely use and maintain a large variety of tools and equipment associated with the assembly of valves and actuators, including impact wrenches, electric and manual hand tools, testing equipment, overhead cranes, and forklifts.
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC card within 60 days of hire (at Caltrol's expense).
  • Strong work ethic.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic mechanical aptitude and experience with hand tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret assembly manuals (IOM’s).

Responsibilities

  • Assist and learn how to test and assemble valves by following manufacturers’ assembly procedures, work orders, or other customer specifications.
  • Repair pressure management valves to include tear down, sandblasting, tagging, sealing, and lapping.
  • Follow procedures as required by ASME codes and National Board standards.
  • Inspect, evaluate, and verify the accuracy of the assembled unit for conformance to standards and customer requirements.
  • Prepare paperwork for repaired valves and ensure all details are accurately documented in Caltrol's software system.
  • Clean corrosive and other deposits from serviceable parts using solvents, wire brushes, or a sandblaster.
  • Work at the main facility as well as the customer site to tear down, decontaminate, assemble, repair, and test equipment.
  • Drive company vehicles to customer sites for pick up and deliveries of valves.
  • Perform regular maintenance and upkeep of shop equipment.
  • Learn with hands-on experience to be able to safely work on repairing pressure protection equipment.
  • Participate in drug testing pools and maintain an acceptable status in each pool, including background checks every 2 years and random drug testing.
