We assemble and test relief valves on air, water, steam, ammonia or gas to meet required pressure specifications. This role involves making decisions regarding the proper action of the valve, such as setting and adjusting to the accurate desired pressure, checking for seat tightness, and detecting any malfunction of the valve and marking areas of leakage. The position also includes performing a variety of assembly operations on all styles and sizes of valves, such as tagging, stamping nameplates and data plates, and attaching seals and spring covers. Interpreting orders for stamping of Nuclear, Navy, and commercial nameplates, as well as performing preparation and painting operations in accordance with QA and customer requirements, are key duties. Additionally, the role requires working from specifications, drawings, or sketches to perform hand or machine lapping of any valve or nozzle seat, inserts, and other parts. The assembler may operate two or more machines simultaneously and use appropriate lapping and special polishing compounds to achieve specified surface flatness and finish. The use of any equipment required for the duties, including flow testing equipment, is necessary. Daily interface with engineering, manufacturing, production control, and Sales regarding customer requirements and valve problems to ensure on-time deliveries is expected.
