Value Stream Planner

GTI Fabrication•Wilmington, NC

About The Position

The Value Stream Planner owns end-to-end production and material requirements plans for an assigned GTI value stream or customer program. The planner maintains a rolling 12-week horizon, with weeks 1–4 managed at execution-grade detail and weeks 5–12 focused on capacity and material pre-positioning. The role translates customer demand, program milestones, and business priorities into executable schedules, continuously reconciles plans against actual performance, and identifies risks early enough to prevent schedule misses. Embedded with the value stream team, the planner works alongside the Production Operations Manager or Lead and partners closely with Materials Management. The role owns MRP execution, material readiness, shortage resolution, and Clear-to-Build determinations, while helping develop pull replenishment and line-side stores. It also maintains planning data and KPI dashboards, reports risks and results, leads root-cause analysis, and supports standardization of planning practices across value streams. The planner has authority to sequence and release work orders within the agreed freeze window and to initiate specified material actions, escalating cross-value-stream conflicts, broader capacity shortfalls, and material risks that threaten customer commitments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Industrial Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience is considered.
  • At least 5 years of combined experience in Production Planning/Scheduling and Materials Planning/MRP, ideally in contract manufacturing, engineered-to-order, or high-mix production environments.
  • Demonstrated ownership of a production schedule and its supporting material plan; experience limited to transactional work or expediting is not sufficient.
  • Strong experience with an ERP/MRP system such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, MRPeasy, IFS, Epicor, or similar.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis.
  • Comfort building and maintaining KPI dashboards.
  • Strong analytical, cross-functional communication, and prioritization skills, with the ability to operate with real decision authority in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • APICS / CPIM or CSCP certification.
  • Experience with IFS Cloud, StartProto, and/or MRPeasy.
  • Experience with an MES or shop-floor execution system; StartProto or equivalent is a plus.
  • Experience supporting fabrication, welding, structural or mechanical assembly, electrical integration, or engineered-to-order manufacturing environments.
  • Experience implementing kanban, pull systems, or line-side store replenishment.
  • Experience with Power BI, SQL, or other data-visualization tools.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and daily management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Own and publish the rolling 12-week production plan for the assigned value stream or customer program.
  • Manage weeks 1–4 at execution-grade detail, including daily or weekly sequencing and work-center loading, and weeks 5–12 at capacity- and material-pre-positioning detail.
  • Translate customer demand, program milestones, and business priorities into an executable schedule across the value stream’s work centers.
  • Reconcile the plan against actual performance, including schedule attainment, work in progress, and throughput, and adjust proactively to prevent misses.
  • Evaluate value-stream capacity and partner with the Production Operations Manager or Lead on staffing, overtime, and shift needs.
  • Hold sequencing and work-order release authority within the agreed freeze window and escalate exceptions.
  • Own MRP execution for the value stream using BOM-driven demand, supplier lead times, and on-hand and on-order inventory positions.
  • Maintain material readiness across the 12-week horizon and a live green/yellow/red material tracker for the value stream’s programs.
  • Identify material shortages and constraints early and drive resolution with Procurement and Materials Management.
  • Own Clear-to-Build determinations and readiness gates before work-order release.
  • Work alongside the Production Operations Manager or Lead in the value stream’s daily and weekly operating rhythm.
  • Participate in value-stream floor walks and huddles to identify emerging risks firsthand and develop GEMBA practice with OpEx and Operations.
  • Share accountability with the Operations Manager or Lead for schedule attainment and on-time delivery outcomes.
  • Direct and prioritize the assigned Production Control Technician’s work, including transactional execution and material tracking.
  • Partner with Materials Management across warehousing, cycle counting, inventory health, goods receiving, yard management, and material delivery to align material flow with the plan.
  • Co-develop and pilot pull replenishment and line-side stores, including kanban, min/max, and visual triggers, with Materials Management.
  • Provide demand and consumption signals for replenishment sizing and tuning, validate performance, and iterate as production-rate requirements change.
  • Maintain planning data integrity in ERP/MRP and the shop-floor system of record, including schedule dates, BOMs, routings, and inventory data.
  • Build and maintain dashboards for schedule attainment, material availability, shortage aging, on-time delivery, inventory health, and Clear-to-Build status.
  • Report KPIs and risks in the weekly Production Planning & Execution review.
  • Lead root-cause analysis of schedule misses, shortages, and planning gaps, and drive countermeasures through verified effectiveness.
  • Support standardization of planning practices across value streams with the Production Control Manager.
  • Trigger call-offs against blanket orders and initiate kitting or staging requests to the Warehouse within the role’s stated authority.
  • Escalate cross-value-stream resource conflicts, capacity shortfalls beyond the value stream’s control, and material risks that will breach a customer commitment to the Production Control Manager.
