About The Position

The Value Stream Manager has broad responsibility and leadership for the overall operation of a value stream. This role implements the Carlstar Operating System to ensure a safe work environment, maximize profitable growth, drive quality improvements, provide premier customer service, develop a technically qualified workforce, and reduce operating costs, inventories, and lead times through continuous improvements. The manager oversees day-to-day activities to meet daily, monthly, quarterly, and yearly expectations and is responsible for managing the plant production KPIs (Key Performance Indicators). The Value Stream Manager must demonstrate knowledge and expertise in lean and six-sigma manufacturing principles, strategy development and execution, and state-of-the-art manufacturing technology. The position requires excellent focus, high energy and enthusiasm, forward thinking, strong analytical capability, excellent problem-solving skills, the ability to manage change, solid execution, and a commitment to help the company meet financial objectives and exceed customer expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum three to five years of manufacturing experience.
  • Minimum three years’ experience in managing a team
  • Management of plant operations requiring significant manufacturing knowledge as well as advanced interpersonal and supervisory skills.
  • Experience with fiscal activities such as inventory, staffing levels, budgets, and financial goals.
  • Proven record of successful career progression.
  • Proven track record of driving results and continuous improvement in an organization
  • Experience in developing high-performance teams
  • Practical knowledge of leading edge lean/six sigma strategies
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to deal with and manage multiple projects
  • Proven ability to lead and develop people

Responsibilities

  • Ownership of Value Stream KPIs including safety, quality, cost, and delivery metrics
  • Responsible for Carlstar Operating System implementation and long-term manufacturing strategies.
  • Work any shift to address production issues, training, or team building.
  • Meets with the Production Manager regularly, reflecting on problems, solutions, and challenges, thereby creating a culture of continuous improvement and contributing towards becoming a learning organization.
  • Assist in leading Value Stream in daily operations and continuous improvements which include but are not limited to: establishing manufacturing priorities, coordination of activities with off-shift management and order shipments.
  • Emphasizes the creation of continuous product flow, utilize pull systems where flow is not currently possible, and works to level the workload.
  • Creates the basis for continuous improvement and employee empowerment by ensuring that standardized work/processes are followed, countermeasures implemented, and the area is compliant with safety requirements.
  • Instills and maintains a positive can-do team atmosphere within the Value Stream; holding regular team meetings and assigning team members’ tasks and coordinating support services needed outside the team.
  • Directs and coordinates value stream operations within company policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a clean and safe value stream.
  • Responsible for production goals.
  • Fosters a well-trained and motivated team.
