About The Position

The Value Stream Lead - Machining is responsible for leading daily activities within the machining value stream to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role serves as the primary shop floor leader for CNC and manual machining operations, providing technical guidance, coaching, and support to machinists and machine operators while ensuring production goals, quality standards, and delivery commitments are achieved. The Value Stream Lead works closely with the Value Stream Supervisor and cross-functional teams to eliminate bottlenecks, resolve production issues, support continuous improvement initiatives, and maintain compliance with ISO 9001 quality system requirements. This individual leads by example, promotes accountability, and helps develop a highly skilled and engaged machining team.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED or related experience and/or training: or equivalent combination of education and experience
2-3 years’ experience in CNC machining
Intermediate understanding of CNC G-codes and M-codes
Intermediate skill in operating CNC machinery and tooling as well as precision measurement tools
Proficiency in math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals)
Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing processes
Demonstrated commitment to continuous quality improvement, excellent analytical and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment, unsupervised. Demonstrated ability to interact with other employees and exhibit leadership capabilities.
Thinks independently, shows initiative, anticipates and prevents problems.
Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Required to be available to work overtime, including weekends and work a variable schedule.

Responsibilities

Lead personnel to maximize output in value stream; assist in developing weekly staffing and production strategy to ensure production targets across all work areas are met.
Direct personnel activities; assist in performance evaluation and documentation.
Assist in Daily Management of the value stream; ensure team is working to problem solve issues and roadblocks preventing production targets from being met.
Control disruptions within value stream - containing and correcting disruptions and returning the assembly cell back to normal flow.
Support standard work, drive lean manufacturing initiatives, and execute plans within the value stream.
Notify Value Stream Supervisor or Quality Department of defective material or faulty operations and assist in troubleshooting.
Serve as a technical resource for machining operations, setups, tooling, and process troubleshooting.
Assist operators and machining techs with resolving machining, tooling, setup, and production issues.
Support optimization of machine utilization, setup reduction, and process flow.
Help ensure proper application of machining processes and best practices throughout the value stream.
Actively participate in improvement projects. Learn new procedures and train others as required.
Lead by example - following agreed upon procedures, maintaining good attendance and complying to all safety and quality guidelines.
