About The Position

The Value Stream Engineer Intern supports continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing production processes, mapping material flow, and identifying opportunities to reduce waste across the value stream. This role provides hands‑on experience applying Lean methodologies, supporting operational excellence, and collaborating with cross‑functional teams to improve workflow efficiency from receiving through shipping.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel.
  • Understanding of Lean manufacturing principles (5S, VSM, Kaizen, SMED).
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Detail‑oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Minitab or simulation tools is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in updating production standards as part of a phased approach: Phase 1: Strategic review focused on line speed; use actual throughput data temporarily. Phase 2: Conduct time studies to evaluate whether standards are met and identify gaps.
  • Map current‑state operations and document material flow throughout the production process.
  • Identify bottlenecks, waste, and inefficiencies using Value Stream Mapping (VSM).
  • Conduct time studies and support SMED activities to reduce changeover times.
  • Apply Lean tools such as Kaizen, 5S, Gemba walks, and root‑cause analysis to drive continuous improvement.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret manufacturing data including cycle times, throughput, inventory levels, and other KPIs.
  • Prepare reports and presentations summarizing findings and recommending improvements.
  • Support tracking of operational performance metrics.
  • Update facility and equipment layouts using AutoCAD to reflect process changes.
  • Revise or create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and process documentation.
  • Ensure documentation aligns with quality, safety, and compliance standards.
  • Work with production, quality, engineering, and maintenance teams to troubleshoot issues and implement improvements.
  • Participate in daily operations meetings and contribute insights based on data and observations.
  • Support communication of improvement initiatives across departments.
