About The Position

The Test & Validation Engineer – Lighting Commodity is responsible for planning, executing, and reporting validation activities for automotive exterior and interior lighting systems. This role ensures products meet OEM, regulatory, and company internal requirements from prototype through production validation and supports VA/VE initiatives to improve cost competitiveness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • 3+ years of automotive test & validation experience, preferably in lighting or electronics.
  • Experience with OEM specifications and automotive product development cycles preferred.
  • Experience with DVP&R execution, environmental and electrical testing, failure analysis, VA/VE methodologies, and use of standard lab equipment.
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical skills, business and cost awareness, clear technical communication, ability to manage multiple priorities, and effective collaboration with cross-functional and global teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and release validation test plans (DVP&R) aligned with OEM specifications and company standards.
  • Execute environmental, electrical, mechanical, and functional tests on lighting systems and components.
  • Coordinate internal and third-party accredited lab testing activities.
  • Analyze test results and confirm compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare test reports using Company validation templates.
  • Communicate risks, failures, and root causes to cross-functional teams.
  • Support Advanced Programs, Product Engineering, Quality, and Purchasing during development and launch.
  • Participate in design reviews, validation reviews, and PDP phase gates.
  • Support corrective actions, re-test planning, and issue closure.
  • Act as VA/VE engineer to proactively identify, develop, and propose cost-saving opportunities across lighting systems and components.
  • Collaborate with Product Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing, and Suppliers to evaluate design, material, process, and test optimizations.
  • Quantify cost savings, assess technical and quality risks, and support implementation of approved VA/VE initiatives.
  • Support cost reduction workshops and contribute to continuous improvement and margin enhancement objectives.
