About The Position

The Validation and Verification Engineer is responsible for verification, validation, and quality assurance of fly-by-wire software, display software, and FPGA firmware. The role includes creating, executing, and reviewing tests at both high- and low-level requirement levels, including FPGA requirements-based verification through simulation and hardware testing. The engineer also reviews requirements, design, code, and HDL using checklists. The position involves developing and conducting flight-critical software tests and reviews, planning and executing display software and FPGA verification, and developing test benches and automation for embedded systems. The engineer supports certification activities under applicable aviation standards, including FAA/DER reviews, and maintains software and hardware certification plans and artifacts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience in software, firmware, or hardware engineering in the certification of software and systems.
  • Experience developing software or hardware test and verification documents.
  • Experience with dSPACE or similar HIL tools.
  • Experience with Python, C, C++, and MATLAB.
  • Working knowledge of CAN, RTD, serial communication, ARINC 429, and UART.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Experience designing, developing, verifying, and certifying display software per DO-178C.
  • Experience verifying and certifying FPGA designs per DO-254, preferably at DAL A/B.
  • Proficiency in VHDL and/or Verilog, SystemVerilog, UVM, or cocotb test benches.
  • Experience with HDL simulation and synthesis tools such as Questa/ModelSim, Vivado, or Libero.
  • Experience with lab equipment for in-hardware verification, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers.
  • Self-starter able to work independently with minimal supervision and influence the organization.
  • Familiarity with ARP 4754A, DO-178C, DO-331, and DO-254.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and conduct flight-critical tests and reviews of Flight Control System software per DO-178C and DO-331.
  • Plan and execute Display software verification and validation per DO-178C, including requirements-based testing of display formats, symbology, pilot interactions, alerting, and data interfaces.
  • Develop automated display test frameworks and test executives.
  • Plan and execute FPGA firmware verification per DO-254, including requirements-based HDL simulation, test bench development, code coverage analysis, elemental analysis, and in-target hardware testing.
  • Develop embedded systems test benches and perform processor-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop testing across software, display, and FPGA components.
  • Develop verification testing tools and automation, qualify the test stand, and develop qualification procedures.
  • Develop and maintain software and hardware certification plans and artifacts, including SVP, HVP, verification tests and procedures, verification results, and compliance reports.
  • Perform structural coverage analysis for software using LDRA or equivalent, and HDL code coverage for FPGA designs.
  • Review requirements, design, code, and HDL using checklists.
  • Facilitate FAA/DER reviews for software (SOI-1 to SOI-4) and the equivalent DO-254 stages of involvement for airborne electronic hardware.

Benefits

  • Valuable stock option plan.
  • Heavily subsidized medical, dental, and vision plans.
  • 20 days of paid time off and 5 sick days annually for full-time employees, subject to Company policy.
