About The Position

The Valet Attendant provides Patient Assisted Parking Services in support of Veterans, visitors, and caregivers arriving at the Albany Stratton Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Personnel assigned to this position will greet customers, receive vehicles at the facility entrance, safely park vehicles in the designated patient parking lot, maintain accountability of vehicle keys, operate the claim-check system, and support continuous parking operations. The Valet Attendant plays a critical role in ensuring efficient patient access to medical services while maintaining customer service standards, safety requirements, and vehicle wait times of less than ten minutes. Attendants are expected to perform multiple operational functions and maintain uninterrupted coverage throughout the workday.

Requirements

  • US Citizen
  • Fluent in English
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License
  • Minimum 2 years of driving experience (automatic and manual)
  • 6 Months of patient assisted parking services experience in a healthcare setting serving patients of varying physical abilities
  • Comply with local traffic laws and VAMC campus traffic regulations
  • Providing courteous, respectful, and professional customer service
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication
  • Physical Ability to: Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Frequently enter and exit vehicles.
  • Walk repeatedly between the front circle and patient parking lot.
  • Operate passenger vehicles safely in various weather conditions.
  • Bend, reach, stoop, and maneuver within vehicles.
  • Work outdoors for extended periods.
  • Wear reflective outerwear and contractor uniforms during all assigned shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Receive vehicles at the main entrance front circle.
  • Issue a claim check or receipt to customers utilizing parking services.
  • Safely transport and park customer vehicles in the designated patient parking lot.
  • Retrieve vehicles upon customer request.
  • Maintain vehicle wait times under ten (10) minutes.
  • Maintain accountability and security of vehicle keys using lock boxes.
  • Utilize the electronic claim-check and vehicle tracking system.
  • Operate from either the front circle or patient parking lot as assigned.
  • Maintain continuous operational coverage and support relief during employee breaks.
  • Complete daily reports documenting vehicles serviced and hours worked.
  • Report safety concerns, accidents, incidents, or hazards to appropriate personnel.
  • Coordinate with Veterans Affairs Police when required.
  • Turn over remaining vehicle keys to Veterans Affairs Police at the close of business.
