About The Position

The Clinical Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Coordinator is a nurse with broad knowledge and skills who participates in the coordination of the VAD program and services for the bridge to transplant and destination therapy patient population.

Requirements

  • Progressive job related experience specific to area of responsibility.
  • New York State RN License with current registration.
  • BCLS certification – Issuing Authority: AHA or Red Cross

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the development, implementation and coordination of clinical services and programs for VAD patient population.
  • Patient Screening: Assessment and evaluation of patient/family psychological and social preparedness for VAD insertion.
  • Assessment and evaluation of bridge to transplant/ destination patients pre operatively.
  • Coordinate care of the postoperative patient with the medical director and the cardiothoracic team.
  • Coordinate discharge planning for VAD population.
  • Assures 24 hour availability/on call for implantation and explanation of VAD on a rotational basis.
  • Follows VAD patients in the community and assures comprehensive out patient care.
  • Coordinates follow up care.
  • Participates and/or conducts clinical research including IRB submissions, maintaining case report forms, and assuring protocol compliance.
  • Maintains VAD data base in accordance with good clinical practice mandates.
  • Act as a liaison between patient/family and clinical staff.
  • Promotes an interdisciplinary approach in patient care delivery.
  • Acts as a patient advocate utilizing Patient Bill of Rights.
  • Participates in promoting and maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.
  • Supports the mission, philosophy, goals and objectives at Mount Sinai Medical Center and the Department of Nursing.
  • Maintains clinical competence.
  • Is responsible and accountable for their own nursing practice.
  • Collaborates with other members of the health care team in the development, implementation and ongoing review of policies, procedures and standards of care for VAD patient population.

  • The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $96,461.00 - $144,692.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
