About The Position

Operate large capacity vacuum furnaces used in the production of vacuum melted master metal. This includes charging the furnace, melting and refining of revert and raw materials, and assisting in the pouring of the master heat. The role also involves building pour blocks, removing skull, patching crucible linings, knocking out spent crucible linings and relining crucible with new refractory linings, and changing coils at the end of furnace campaigns. The operator receives instructions from the master metal supervisor.

Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
One to three years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Ability to write routine labor reports
Ability to speak clearly with supervisors and coworkers
Ability to add and subtract five digit whole numbers and decimals and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s
Ability to perform these operations using units of American weight measurement, volume, and distance
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations
Regular attendance
Ability to work weekday and weekend overtime
Stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear
Reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
Occasionally sit
Frequently lift and/or move 10 to 50 pounds
