About The Position

This role involves performing general labor duties in field operations, focusing on dust control, material procurement, and site safety. The Vacuum Laborer will operate various hand tools, drive a water wagon trailer and water truck, and ensure a consistent flow of materials for the pipe layer. Safety is paramount, requiring adherence to all Authority safety policies, proper communication with drivers and equipment operators, and maintaining a clean and safe excavation work area. The position also includes general labor tasks such as site clean-up and working with construction materials. Daily meetings with the Foreman are expected.

Requirements

  • 2 years’ experience and knowledge of adequate material for dry utilities
  • Have a dust control certification
  • Able to recognize the material required
  • walk, stand, sit, use hands to finger, handle power tools (sharpshooter, jumping jack), reach with hands and arms, climb in/out of equipment and shovel
  • Good communication skills
  • Lifting: up to 50 pounds
  • Exposure to elements: all outdoor elements (i.e. wind, rain, snow, heat, cold)
  • Handling of Dangerous Equipment: power tools
  • Capability/ability to work around construction materials including primer glue, W-40, gas/diesel, etc.
  • AZ Driver’s License (CDL preferred)
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug test
  • 1 year of previous experience working around heavy equipment
  • Must have experience working with contract documents such as contract drawings, subcontracts, contract addendums, specifications and change orders

Responsibilities

  • Regular use of hand tools (Shovel, Sharpshooter, handsaw, saw-saw & hammers)
  • Drive water wagon trailer & water truck to provide dust control during excavations
  • Procure material for Pipe Layer to maintain a consistent flow of production
  • Use of an upright tamper to compact and level spoils during the backfill process
  • Establish and maintain eye contact with the driver and remain in clear view of the driver
  • Immediately signal the driver to stop if any person or object enters the vehicle’s intended path of travel
  • Direct vehicles to the proper area of the facility based on the site plan
  • Communicate with equipment operators regarding pedestrian traffic and other obstacles
  • Utilize provided work-related items (i.e. flashlights and PPE)
  • May perform general labor duties on an as-needed basis including, for example, site clean-up
  • Ensures cleanliness of excavation work area and inspects for proper hazardous conditions before and after daily tasks
  • Follow all Authority safety policies and procedures, including the proper way to approach oncoming vehicles; make eye contact with drivers to ensure signals are understood; always maintain the use of personal protective equipment
  • Enforce publicly posted safety rules and safety standards not posted
  • Meet with Foreman daily for duties and tasks
