About The Position

The Vacation Camp & After School Program Director facilitates and oversees BPRW's licensed Vacation Camp and potential After School programming for school-aged youth (Kindergarten–5th grade). This role involves collaboration with the Recreation Specialist, session scheduling, licensing compliance, and family communication. The Director serves as the lead point of contact for each session, responsible for the full arc of camp planning, from theme implementation and daily schedule design through staff training, day-of operations, and post-session evaluation. BPRW Vacation Camps run during Burlington School District's scheduled school breaks. Additional sessions may be added. Each Vacation Camp session provides 9 hours of licensed child care per day. This position would also be for the potential new After School program, which would serve students every weekday afternoon. Program activities include arts and crafts, gym/active games, themed enrichment activities, outdoor time, and one field trip or on-site guest presenter visit per session. The Director will implement each session's theme and daily schedule in advance, working from BPRW's established theme and schedule.

Requirements

  • Possess a BA, BS, or Associate's Degree along with one of the following: at least 10 months direct work experience with school-aged children; Vermont On-the-Job Training certificate; Vermont Afterschool Professional Credential; Vermont Program Director Credential; Vermont Teacher License; or a Master's Degree in a youth-related field.
  • College coursework in Education, Childhood Development, Family Studies, or Recreation Management required.
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record check.
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Ability to supervise and organize groups of children for activity programs.
  • Ability to deal effectively with discipline problems, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Knowledge of safety principles and practices as they apply to group activities.
  • Knowledge of a variety of recreation/leisure activities and group games.
  • A cooperative attitude and a team player.
  • Enthusiasm, patience, a desire to work with children, and creativity.
  • Ability to pass a State of Vermont Background Check for Childcare Providers and be fingerprinted.
  • Complete required trainings before the start of each session, as part of child care licensing.
  • Successfully complete a background investigation upon conditional offer of employment.
  • Staff member must be CPR and First Aid trained or get trained upon hiring.

Responsibilities

  • Available to work all scheduled Vacation Camp sessions, including a pre-session planning/training day and the full run of each session, as well as the After School program.
  • Implement each session's theme, daily schedule, craft/gym/activity plan, and field trip or guest presenter, using BPRW's established Vacation Camp schedule template as a starting point.
  • Plan and coordinate day-to-day camp operations: camper files, transportation for field trips, space setup/takedown, supply inventory, and staff appreciation.
  • Work with and supervise Vacation Camp Teachers and the Float & Prep Teacher for each session.
  • Provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for participants.
  • Provide excellent customer service to parents, guardians, and caregivers through on-going communication and session updates, including posting each day's written agenda.
  • Support the supervision, engagement, and well-being of participants on-site and during field trips or guest presenter days.
  • Ensure compliance with Vermont Child Care Licensing Regulations for each session, including staff-to-child ratios, required documentation, emergency drills, and medication logs.
  • Conduct staff evaluations following each session.
  • Provide direct coverage in the event of staff shortages or ratio needs.
  • Inventory, replace, and coordinate craft/activity supplies before and between sessions.
  • Administer proper First Aid as required.
  • Be on site 30 minutes before and after each camp day.
  • Follow all departmental and state license rules & regulations.
  • Maintain a safe area and report any deficiencies, incidents, or accidents to supervisor.
  • Attend staff meetings and staff trainings as required.
  • Operate a City vehicle and/or personal vehicle to conduct City business (e.g., field trip day).
