About The Position

As the UX lead, you will oversee and support a team of UI designers by thinking through design architectural problems and guiding/collaborating with your team to move forward with the best concept. You will have a holistic view of the whole product and its features to maintain consistency and coherence. You’ll also lead UX Research, creating and executing UXR plans from early phase research to late-stage validation. This position is a contract role with an initial term until 12/31/2026. As an employee of pmX, you will be a consultant performing tasks for a client onsite in Portland, Oregon. The client is a major automotive company focused on commercial vehicle production and innovation. This project aims to improve processes for the software-defined vehicle world, enabling capabilities like flash over-the-air updates and digital twins. The project involves a web-based digital product that optimizes and automates vehicle software documentation and release processes.

Requirements

  • Adaptable and comfortable with work processes that are not rigid but constantly improving
  • Able to work well and collaborate among language barriers
  • At least 3 years of UX design or UI design experience
  • At least 3 years of UX research experience: interviews, recruitment, usability testing
  • Team lead qualities (presenting, larger decision-making, communication, organization)
  • Figma Proficiency - able to prototype across features, states, and flows
  • Portfolio demonstrating strong visual design, interaction design, and problem-solving, with clear ownership of work

Nice To Haves

  • Automotive industry experience (particularly familiarity with ECUs and vehicle software programming)
  • Understanding of front-end development (data structures and organization)

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of UX/UI designers, providing guidance, support, delegating work strategically, and maintaining organized workflows
  • Solve high-level/architectural design and conceptual challenges while maintaining overall design quality and coherence
  • Collaborate with cross-functional leads (Developers, researchers, Feature owners)
  • Create and execute UX research plans (user interviews, usability testing, etc.)
  • Maintain well-organized, accessible, and shareable design files and workflows and workspaces
  • Jump in to support hands-on UI design work when needed
