UX Research Intern - Summer of 2027

About The Position

The UX Research Intern supports the User Experience Research team in understanding Jewelers Mutual customers' behaviors, motivations, and pain points. Through usability testing, interviews, and data analysis, this role turns customer insight into clear, actionable recommendations that help designers, product managers, and stakeholders make confident, evidence-based decisions and build digital products that reduce risk, uncover new opportunities, and improve customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Human Factors, Cognitive Science, Design, or a related field with a graduation date between December 2027 and May 2029
  • Foundational knowledge of UX research methods, such as usability testing, interviewing, surveys, card sorting, and tree testing
  • Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data and translate it into clear, actionable insights
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present findings to varied audiences
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Collaborative mindset and curiosity about customers and the problems they face

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship, coursework, or project experience in UX research, user testing, or a related discipline
  • Familiarity with research and design tools, such as Figma, UserTesting, Maze, Optimal Workshop, or similar platforms
  • Experience with survey tools and basic data analysis in Excel or similar software
  • Interest in insurance, financial services, or e-commerce experiences

Responsibilities

  • Plan and run moderated and unmoderated usability tests, in-lab and remote, using prototypes and live products
  • Conduct user interviews to understand customer behaviors, workflows, and pain points
  • Facilitate card sorting, tree testing, surveys, and other evaluative research methods
  • Observe and document how users interact with designs in real time, taking detailed notes and compiling video highlights from sessions
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative research data using a variety of tools and methodologies to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Create clear, concise reports that summarize usability findings and recommendations
  • Present research findings to UX designers, product managers, and stakeholders
  • Collaborate with designers and researchers to refine test plans and research protocols
