About The Position

Bloomberg’s UX team uncovers users’ needs and goals and translates them into valuable, highly usable software across desktop, web, and mobile products. The team enhances the Bloomberg Terminal and supports premium desktop and web products, as well as internal technology platforms. It comprises researchers, product designers, prototypers, and technical writers who partner with product and technology teams. The UX Design Team Lead will lead designers for a Bloomberg business vertical. The role sets team strategy, balances near-term delivery with longer-term direction, and partners with Product, Engineering, and senior leaders to deliver outcomes and impact. The leader will also advance strategic UX department initiatives, define team processes and practices, and mentor, inspire, and coach team members. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong design skills and a passion for making complex systems intuitive and valuable. The leader will partner with end users and subject matter experts, take ownership of a domain, and shape conceptual frameworks, interaction design, and the overall user experience for new products and major enhancements.

Requirements

At least 2 years of experience as a UX people manager, with the ability to demonstrate leadership through hands-on design work when appropriate.
At least 4 years of experience as a UX or Product designer in an individual-contributor role.
Bachelor’s or graduate degree in HCI, Interaction Design, Information Architecture, Visual Communication, or a design-related field.
Track record applying common User-Centered Design practices, including user research to address difficult design problems, and strong communication skills to advocate for user needs.
Experience designing complex user workflows, decision-support systems, large dataset visualizations, framework-level patterns, information architecture, and graphic or visual design.
Experience with usability research and analysis.
Project management skills to guide projects through the design lifecycle from start to release, including independently identifying needed information and planning how to gather and synthesize it.
Experience developing design team members.

Nice To Haves

Experience in institutional finance and the capital markets industry.
Knowledge of or experience with AI platforms, the software engineering domain, and engineering tools.

Responsibilities

Work with Product, Engineering, and senior leaders to drive delivery, outcomes, and impact.
Drive strategic UX department initiatives and define team processes and practices.

Contribute hands-on design work and uphold design quality across the team’s initiatives.
Partner with end users and subject matter experts to envision and craft conceptual frameworks, interaction design, and user experiences for new products and major enhancements.
Translate user needs, business objectives, and technology capabilities into design solutions.
Lead the design process from customer research using qualitative and quantitative methods through conceptualization, storyboarding, detailed design, and collaboration with engineering on implementation.
Work with business teams to adopt a user-centered process and ground design decisions in a detailed understanding of customer workflows and needs.
Conduct workshops with business teams, subject matter experts, and engineering.
Collaborate with engineers to support building products according to design specifications.
Build partnerships with cross-functional collaborators and continuously identify ways to increase the team’s impact.
