UX Design Engineer (US Remote)

OomnitzaSan Francisco, CA
$120,000 - $165,000Remote

About The Position

Oomnitza is seeking a UX Design Engineer to lead the design system, component library, and prototyping tools for their Product Engineering team. This role is hands-on, focusing on maintaining and evolving the design system, extending the Storybook component library, building rapid prototyping tools, and consulting on novel interactions. The goal is to empower Product Engineers to move quickly while maintaining high design quality. The position can be based in the US or Ireland, as much of the work involves tooling and systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of combined experience in product design and front-end engineering.
  • Proficiency in both Figma and modern front-end codebases.
  • Experience owning or significantly contributing to a production design system and a Storybook or equivalent component library.
  • Strong front-end skills including React, TypeScript, modern CSS (including design tokens), and accessibility best practices.
  • Comfort with AI-enabled design and prototyping workflows.
  • Strong design taste coupled with the ability to systematize it into reusable patterns and components.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document patterns, brief engineers, and influence without direct authority.
  • Self-directed and outcome-oriented, with the ability to prioritize high-leverage system investments independently.
  • B2B SaaS or enterprise software experience is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Oomnitza design system end-to-end, including visual language, interaction patterns, accessibility guardrails, and consistency rules.
  • Maintain and extend the Storybook component library, ensuring components are correct, documented, performant, accessible, and easy for Product Engineers to use.
  • Build and maintain prototyping tooling such as design tokens, AI-prompt scaffolds, design markdowns, and starter kits to accelerate the process from idea to validated prototype.
  • Consult with Product Engineers on UX interactions that deviate from established patterns and develop new patterns, components, or guidance to integrate into the system.
  • Collaborate with engineering to ensure alignment between the design system and its implementation library, identifying one-off interactions suitable for promotion into the system.
  • Uphold the quality bar for design output across the team by reviewing prototypes against the system, identifying drift, and making adherence to the system easy.
  • Stay informed about advancements in the design-engineering space (e.g., Figma plugins, AI design tooling, headless component libraries, accessibility standards) and propose relevant investments.

Benefits

  • Career Growth opportunities, including shaping the team and driving initiatives with founders.
  • Market-competitive salary and equity.
  • Opportunity to join a fast-growing, venture-backed business.
