UX/AI Design Contractor

O3 WorldPhiladelphia, PA

About The Position

We’re O3 — a design and technology consulting firm that helps companies use data and AI to work smarter and grow faster. We partner with marketing and technology leaders to solve real problems, improve operations, and create better digital experiences. With support from our dedicated AI practice, O3XO, we turn ideas into practical solutions that deliver results for your team and your customers. O3 is also the team behind the 1682 Conference, an AI and innovation conference that serves as an anchor for our thought leadership work. We’re looking for a UX/UI designer to join our team as a contractor, working sprint by sprint alongside our lead designer/advisor, who scopes and oversees the work. Engagements run in roughly 4-week sprints at 8–16 hours/week, then roll into the next sprint or project as new needs come up. This is an ad hoc, as-needed role: you’ll move across different client projects, picking up feature requests, support work, and defined deliverables rather than owning end-to-end strategy. You’ll report into and be guided by the lead/senior advisor on each engagement, who sets direction and manages client relationships. Your focus is executing well within that scope.

Requirements

  • A reliable contributor who can be brought onto a sprint on short notice and ramp quickly.
  • Comfortable taking direction and a defined scope, and turning it into clean wireframes, flows, or visual designs.
  • Solid visual taste and attention to detail, with the ability to execute polished, usable interfaces from clear direction.
  • Curious, adaptable, and open to feedback. You stay current with modern design tools and workflows, including emerging AI tools that support research, ideation, documentation, and production.
  • A positive team player who thrives moving between projects in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
  • 4–6+ years of experience in UX, UI, product design, or a closely related field.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating design work across websites, applications, or digital products.
  • Experience creating low-fidelity wireframes, user flows, and information architecture deliverables.
  • A track record of producing quality UI design work, including high-fidelity screens and component-based systems.
  • Ability to apply direction from research findings, stakeholder input, or usability insights provided by the lead advisor or research team.
  • Solid visual design skills, including typography, layout, hierarchy, spacing, color, accessibility, and responsive design.
  • Familiarity with design systems, component libraries, and scalable file organization.
  • Comfort preparing design files for development handoff, including specs, annotations, and interaction notes.
  • Familiarity with AI-powered tools and how they can support design exploration, synthesis, documentation, and workflow efficiency.
  • Availability to flex on and off projects on a sprint cadence, sometimes with short lead time.

Nice To Haves

  • Motion graphics experience a plus, including animation and micro-interactions.
  • Comfortable with analytics and CRO design principles.

Responsibilities

  • Execute design work within sprint-based engagements (4 weeks, 8–16 hrs/wk), under the direction of the lead advisor on each project.
  • Produce UX deliverables — wireframes, user flows, and supporting documentation — for defined feature requests and project needs.
  • Create visual design deliverables including high-fidelity comps, UI kit components, and design system elements.
  • Take work from early exploration through execution and development handoff, as scoped by the lead.
  • Collaborate and communicate with the lead advisor, project managers, researchers, and developers to deliver on assigned work.
  • Use modern design tools, including AI-assisted workflows where appropriate, to improve efficiency and delivery.
  • Flex across multiple concurrent or sequential client projects as sprint needs shift.
