About The Position

University Information Technology ( UIT ) has an opening for a student cable technician position. About UIT : University Information Technology ( UIT ) , the central IT service provider for the University of Utah, reports to the U’s Chief Information Officer and is responsible for many of the U’s shared IT services including the wired and wireless network; Campus Information Services ( CIS ) portal; UMail, telephone, and online collaboration; high performance and research computing; information security; software licensing; and a host of other IT systems and services. Requirements

  • Must be current University of Utah student.
  • Willingness to learn about physical networking and fiber optics.

Responsibilities

  • Employees will remove/demolish and install phone and data cabling (e.g. Cat3, Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6A cable).
  • Occasionally, employees will help with the fiber team to install fiber pathway and cabling.
  • The work is physical, and entails getting into ceilings and crawl spaces to remove or install cabling.
