About The Position

Job Summary The Prints and Journals division of Special Collections is looking for a student to process incoming gift book collections with full bibliographic listing, check existing holdings for best copy, check out-of-print resources for book values; and to file books, maps, newspapers, vertical files, and posters, as well as performing some light reference work. This job also includes scanning or duplicating material requested by patrons. The student will have a chance to work behind the scenes in Special Collections, and to learn more about the wide variety of resources available in the library. This position also provides an opportunity to improve clerical and computer skills. For the Library to be able to appropriately monitor hours worked, part-time employees are generally asked to restrict their work with the University of Utah to Library employment only, unless an exception is granted. Responsibilities Assists senior staff in processing gift collections, maintaining vertical files and the serials collection as well as the other collections. Also refiles newspapers, maps, books and serials, vertical files, and posters as these items are used by patrons, and as new acquisitions are added to these collections; assists making item lists for the poster collection, and assists in periodic reorganization of all our collections and in maintaining the stacks and collections generally. The position also entails two reference shifts per week in the Special Collections Reading Room, and one Saturday shift per semester.

Requirements

• Must be a current University of Utah student enrolled 6 undergraduate credit hours or 5 graduate credit hours during the fall and spring semesters.
